I was reading this.thread. I read TONS of threads. I notice lots of people have oil.cooler issues on 7.3s, 6L, 6.4s too. I broke silence just to ask if 6.4 guys are having as many issues as the other powerstroke models.

I didnt wanna muck the thread up, i wanted to know if anybody had a roundabout number that the coolers were crapping the bed in the 6.4s.

Neither here nor there, but my first cooler lasted eight years and then the orings.finally started leaking from heat cycling. I half believe my second batch were shti orings sold to me in a.motorcraft bag. They have beein in there four years but.the trucks only gone 25k miles in the last two years.

Im not sure.what part of my previous post you were referring to when you asked "what do you mean?"?

nothing looked like oil, just thick sludge. Not cooked on, just floating around. Reservoir is pretty clean actually other than the oil sludge.

I'm gonna chalk the plugging up to the coolant. Ever see the oil cooler on a maxxforce 11? Same ****. Different antifreeze. Never see them plugged and we have tons of em at work.

What is the best anti freeze to use in our 6.4 power houses? I was thinking about Evans but I would like to see what the rest are using. Thanks in advance.:)

You can get it right from cat but if you go into a truck shop they can get you ec1 compliant coolant for much less money.

We use Delo at work. Premixed just wheel the cap off and dump 'er in. (After flushing of course).

We have a fleet and about 35 of the 45 or so trucks run that antifreeze.

Evans requires a different water pump? AND thermostat? Ummm, no. They used to instruct people to drill one 1/8" hole in the radiator cap to allow residual coolant/water to evaporate. Now thats not.even required as they dont promote a "zero pressure coolant system". Currently, a ten lb cap is specified. They can be bought at international.

Was reading the "high performance" directions instead.

Different thermostat required if you run one, and plugged weep hole on water pump.

Seems to me I read awhile back about certain engines ( CAT I think, it's been awhile) requiring cooling system mods like water pump and or stats. I'll have to pull it up.

In our trucks, you need to.drain, they recommend a flush using their flush solution and refill with their.coolant. They used to require a hole in the cap but Im certain now they recommend 10lb caps.be.used. Mostly for the liability of some DA getting burned by remnant steam emitted.from a cap.with a hole drilled in it.

I am in the middle of replacing my oil cooler / and headgaskets right now .
Coolant system was completely clogged with sludge .
I do t know if I will ever get all of it out . It is a freakin mess . All over everything .
I put my oil cooler on a bench and filled up one side with mineral spirits , and within minutes it had leaked into the other side and leveled out.
