Yep. different styles. Fine thread, course thread, then abs. I found out the hard way too...

Do you mind clarifying this? I thought they had made the switch from course thread 14x2.0 to fine thread 14x1.5 during the 2002 model year. After that everything was fine thread.
Well like stated my brother went cheap. So he called vatozone and said he needed a unit bearing and they said yup got one right here.... his is an 01.. what they didnt declare is the build dates so after 60 miles round trip and had everything back together and tried to put a lug nut on it wouldnt go.. so another 60 mile round trip to the store and this time I went and took the original stocker(that lasted 180k miles btw) with me and matched it up.

Yep, I can see that happening. Everyone who had a 99-04 needs to be careful especially around the 01/02 transition years.
When i had to replace the bearings in my boss's 06 we bought MOOG.
Got them in the shop opened the boxes up and they were 2 different manufacturers. The design of each was slightly different and each used different bearings, boss says put em in.
About 3 months later they were both smoked again. Got them warrantied for 2 more MOOG's this time we got one FOMOCO bearing in the MOOG box and another of the same pieces of crap we got the first time in the other. Put em in and 3 months later the off brand POS was shot again.
Warrantied again with a MOOG and got a FOMOCO bearing in the MOOG box. Both hubs have been fine for the past 9 months or so with no measurable play.
I was quite suprised to see the FOMOCO stamp on the hubs.
Could be I'll have to have that checked out

Your tellin me!! We make sure that they say fomoco on them now lol.
I've replaced quite a few unit bearings over the years, on my own rigs and others...
I can honestly say I have never installed a Timkin set...
Do they cost more... Yes...
Are they worth it??? I used to think not, but after installing one this weekend, without a doubt they ARE!
With the aftermarket ones, they require you to reuse your old studs (not wheel but the unit itself), and supply a new O-ring... The Timkin comes with all of this.
The pure quality of the unit is visually apparent...
BTW, I pushed this last one a little too far, I think that last 400 miles was on borrowed time. Right front had over an inch of movement top to bottom...:jawdrop:
Thanks to RiffRaff for the quality parts (and price).
