Tire guidance

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on tires and would like some advice.

Going 35s (maybe 37), and reading up on specs, I've got a couple of questions. For starters, I'm sticking with stock 20s. I know a lot of you run 35x12.50 on 8" wheels, but based on the load rating and width I'm a little hesitant. I've also seen 295/65/20 that are higher load rating, but are more expensive.

So, really, how safe is it to run 35x12.50 on an 8" wheel? I daily drive mine and rarely go above 75mph. Maybe I'm over thinking this, but I'd like to get some opinions before I pull the trigger.

No matter what size your tires are, you should be going with an E weight rating. And a metric size tire should cost less than a standard or inch size. In the same weight rating.

Thanks!! Everything I've considered has been an E rating, so it looks like 35x12.50 is back on the table. I've seen a few local guys running them on factory wheels here too.

Where are the facts behind your comment so I can research this theory?

Which part exactly? You would comfortable tow a heavy trailer or haul a heavy load on a D rated tire? Or that typically a metric size is cheaper than an inch size, because at least in my experience they have been.

I tow comfortably with a D rated tire. It's still a 10ply and has more weight carrying capacity than a stock tire. I don't see where all the negativity is for this. Maybe some D rated, but not all.

Thanks guys. Going with the Mastercraft mxt then in 35x12.50. I don't tow or really load it down. Just don't want a bead breaking at 75mph.

And yes, I've towed a lot with D rated tires. Heavy loads and highway speeds. Thru mountains and on the flat. I prefer an E rated tire, but am no way scared of a D rated one. I 2nd what Jomax stated.

Agreed on both. I've towed with D rated tires, but prefer an E. I was also wondering about Berman's comment about metric versus inch comment.






















Although, it is Berman, I take his advice with the grain of salt it was intended.

I have a buddy of mine that has been running these tires for a while now. He tows heavy with them pretty regularly, and exceeds 75 more than he should and loves them.

So, tell me, what is the difference between a nitto mud grappler 315/75R16 and a nitto mud grappler 35x12.50R16?

Please tell me, I really want to know.

Dude, you were doing good. No need to act douchey about it all, but this is part of how you've earned your reputation...

i have a 315/60r20(same as a 35x12.50r20) on my truck when i had them on my stock rims it almost felt like i had a lot more sway. once i put them on 20x10 wheels that went away. once my new 37's come in i will be putting these 35's on my stock 20's
