To CCV mod or not to CCV mod, that is the question

You would pretty much have to reduce your exhaust to around 2" for a small section to create a true venturi affect and at that point you could put it in any section of the exhaust and still pull vacuum.

at idle yes, with increased flow, it will evacuate quicker. venturi effect is all relative to air speed or density and speed passing over the tube .

I always thought that a venturi has a neck down point? or is the tube going into the exhaust pipe what you are referring to cuz it is smaller then the hose being used?

i used to work for a company that injected ozone into swimming pools. with a gauge on the line , we would put a ball valve on the venturi to regulate, and we would adjust said ball valve to desired vacuum. when we needed more, we increased pump speed, and increasing velocity would increase vacuum exponentially. i do know that with the venturi we sell, at idle , you can feel it on your finger tip , it doesn't need to be scientific , all a ccv system needs in positive vacuum , which has been proven over and over in 5" tubes, about 150 times over so far. never had any issue yet, except for one customer installing the venturi backwards. LOL

I was just about to say I think CAT is just jerking your chain because he likes to argue, Mike, not that your CCV mod doesn't result in a vacuum. It simply does not meet the definition of a Venturi.

Not arguing, just pointing out a small detail!!! Lol....

I wish I cared enough to mod my truck like I did in 2003. Now I just drive it... alot.

If I had more time I would do a mikey CCV reroute...

I haven't even had time to install the muffler/resonator and now that I think of it I haven't even purchased them yet!!

So where's the best placement for the venturi kit in the exhaust?

So in stock form wouldn't the intake pressure actually cause issues with evacuating the crank case pressure because of the positive pressure of the turbo. Seems vented to the atmosphere is the most neutral way with the bashed upon "Venturi" would somewhat if only slightly help to relieve the crank case pressure.

The ccv ties into the stock intake before the turbo. So on the vacuum side.

So those of you who have run to exhaust, whos "venturi" are you using? or do you just weld in a piece of pipe and make your own?

Not so sure their Venturi works as we were told. Finally got around to installing it in the spot recommended by our one and only. Tig welded in right before the up bend over the axle. At idle it is blowing hard out of the "Venturi" valve. No suction what so ever. Now if I rev the truck to 2500-3k rpm it will create some vacuum. Just doesn't sound right to me... I can't have this blowing exhaust in to the crankcase at idle or while just cruising at low rpm...

All I know is we have about 15 de-reeted 6.7's where I work and none of them have a ccv de-reet...these are oilfield trucks that get driven like rentals by most of the guys and completely dogged on. Most have a quarter million miles with over 10,000 hours and none have had any issues. I highly doubt that any of the factory parts have been changed either...just my .02

The one I installed, both the big and the small pipe were miter cut. That might be your problem.

I just went through another thread and saw the same thing... kind of regretting this whole CCV de-reet now. Money on the kit, money on the Valve catch can extra hose, time and more money to get it welded in... only to find out it doesn't work as advertised. Based on this whole thread I'd say to save your money.

To top it off I've been trying to contact Mr Mike but he won't respond or take the phone call.

i wont respond to a phone call ? i have no messages that have not gotten returned today , or ever. this is obviously my first chance to respond so, i HAVE responded at first notice. that being said, we ALWAYS recommend checking vaccuum at idle BEFORE you weld anything. its a really simple process. that being said call, and if i'm not available , leave a message and it will be returned same day, let alone message me here before putting me on blast for something i have no knowledge about.

That's how it is now. I got tired of all the smoke and the oil spots on the rear diff that you can see in the pic above. So I finally took the time/money to install the valve and catch can.
