Torque Converter slippage

I did the trans relearn today with the Spartan 275 tune. It ran pretty good. I changed to the Spartan V2 a few weeks ago. I was running the KEM 250 and 310 tunes. I never saw a problem with the converter, it never went over 3 to 4 RPM slippage at WOT with it locked. But now with the Spartan 275 I am seeing 18.24 at WOT with the converter locked. It stayed there(18.24) from 60mph to 90 when I let off of it. How ever this did happen right after I did the six 0 to 60 mph relearn runs. The trans temp was never above 160 degrees.
Truck is a Job 3 08 with intake and exhaust and traction bars. Should I be concerned with the torque converter slippage?

Thanks
Luke

If your going over ten your gonna need a new torque converter fairly soon..depends how you drive.. my converter started off slipping at about 13 on the 275 and ended up wearing out pretty quick and it began slipping like 45-50 on the gauge. if you dont hammer on it everyday it will last you a long time.. my stock converter had 350 rpms of slip on the 310 tune and the truck still had all kinds of power even locked.

It will go steadily downhill... I think you probably have some time as long as you dont pound on it. If it does go... let us know :D

We thought 10 was bad 2 years ago. We were wrong. My truck was still putting down 575 on Dunbar's dyno with 100 RPM of slip.....

I would say when you starting seeing in the 100-200 RPM with the converter fully locked, you should begin to worry. We replaced my transmission with a SunCoast when I started seeing over 200 RPM. I had a bad 2-3 shift flare and started to notice slip on the highway.

We arent saying 10RPM of slip is bad, what we are saying is that seems to be the progression point of going out.

Any slip is bad. Think of a lock TC as the clutches in your tranny. Do you want them slipping when driving?
No, you dont want the TC slipping either when locked. This causes heat and also will cause the clutch plate to go out.

There is going to be some slip. My SunCoast converter has a little slip. It stays between 0 and 5 RPM when locked. The stock converter wouldn't with a big tune unless I was cruising at light throttle.

With the torque slip PID on the DashDAQ. I believe it is labeled as TQSLIP(rpm) under Ford Specific PID's.

You only monitor it when the converter is locked. It will read really high numbers until the converter is locked.
