Tow/Haul button has been missing since I bought the truck. Looks like they tried to pull the old button to maybe fix it but jacked it up instead.

I can see 2 wires inside the shifter end. They aren't touching. But are too far down in there to reach and install a new button. I believe I'm gonna have to replace the whole shifter.

Can anyone tell me if the tow/haul is activated when the wires are touching or not touching? Seems like it would not be activated when the wires aren't touching, but I'd like to be sure.

When you power up the truck tow/haul is off. The PCM watches for a momentary contact, it isn't an on/off question. Each time it sees the ground connect it switches the state. So the first time it sees ground it turns tow/haul on. The next time it sees it it turns tow/haul off. If you were to leave the wires connected tow/haul would always be off, the same as if you left them disconnected.
