This is what I'm told. I trust the guy who told me this. Is this a difficult seal to replace? I am wondering if I should tackle this myself, not having worked on tranny's or pay the 600+ bucks to replace a 10 dollar seal?

What is the exact issue your mechanic is trying to fix??? The t case on the superduty is sealed. the back of the trans has a gasket between the case and the 4x4 adapter and a large paper circular gasket between the adapter and the transfer case. Having fluid in there is not unusual. The back of the trans is open. If it is just a leak to the outside then replacing the 2 gaskets on either side of the adapter will fix this.

You need the input seal to the tcase. Remove tcase and install the input seal. Not too bad of a job.
