Trans temp again!!!

Long hills and tight turns. I have too also in some of the mountains pulling a trailer. Yes the tranny can get a little warm. I can get mine to lock before 35 and wont unlock till around 30, which helps out a lot. I would call your tuner and see if they can write a tune for you that will lock off MPH in any gear.

What tuner are you using to get it to lock at that mph?

What's your water temp, and out side temp at the time? Are your coolers all clean, Fan working?

I pull my 5th wheel, 5 miles of dirt and hills, about 5-10 mph, I stay right around the 210 mark. Out side temp 80*

Water temp at the time was about 200 and outside temp 85. Coolers and fan are working because once my converter locks all my temps drop.

So my question is since my tuner isn't offering custom tuning at the time, what are my options? Will regearing to 4.88 make a difference?

No way would I switch to 4.88's unless you have a 450 or larger. I bet spartan will still tweak a tune for you. It's worth a shot and will save you the most money. That or do a lockup switch if your willing to be risky.

I would not do 4.88's unless you get bigger tires or it is dedicated tow truck. They suck unloaded, but an animal loaded. Downshifts are not common.

Have you updated your spartan? They have early lock and late lock files. Try early lock

I haven't updated in a while but I believe the 210 tow is the one that has the earliest lock and I already have that one. I would need a custom tune that would lock at about 25-30mph and they're telling me they're not doing custom tuning at the time. :shrug:
