Transfer case slip yoke slop

95 F350 / 133" WB

When I put my 4 inch lift kit on the truck, the rear driveshaft slip joint, where it goes into the transfer case was approximately 1/2" out from where it was originally. I did not think that 1/2" out would hurt anything since it was still on the output shaft about 2 1/4 inches....

But the other day I noticed the seal was leaking, and now there is some slop in the slip yoke where it goes onto the shaft .....

If I push it in the extra half inch, or even more, the slop almost goes away

From as far as I can see the splines on the shaft look fine, and the splines on the inside of the yolk look fine

What are the chances of the yoke splines being bad or worn?
Or God for bid the output shaft splines are worn

What is the most common thing to happen?

I'm wondering if I should replace the driveshaft and the yoke?

Have a custom shaft made maybe 3/4 of an inch longer than what I have now

Maybe they make a longer slip yoke??
That way I won't have to replace the driveshaft

Thoughts?

I would probably just go into a local driveline shop. If they don't have it on the shelf I am sure they can get it quickly.

Fought something similar, the bushing in the tail housing is replaceable. But the bushing can be hard to find.

When the truck is on the ground the Driveshaft is supposed to be 1" from bottoming out in the transfercase. When I did my 4", like you I didn't think it made much of a difference, but I did end up getting a longer shaft and was much happier with the over all fit.

Can't remember but It ended up being like 2.5" longer than the factory shaft after I measured it correctly.

Yeah, I just found out about that bushing.
I am going to take the tail housing off today and take a look

I'm thinking maybe that little slop I have is actually the bushing and not the yoke

I ran a gear vendor for a bunch of years. Seems like every year I was putting a bushing in until I had a shaft made to the proper length.

The bushing is important and will hopefully tighten it up a while. Might be worth a shot. If it seems to cure your problems for a short time maybe then look at a longer shaft.

I went to Napa after work / that was a waste

Called the Ford dealer and they gave me the bushing part number but it's obsolete
FOTZ7085B

I called Camerotas and seems like they can help, but I need to identify which transfer case I have.
Its a BW
I'm pretty sure it's a 1356
Anyway, I'm going to bring the tail shaft down to them. I will let them press in a new bushing.

I don't quite have the proper size socket or piece of pipe to push it out.
And I'd rather not make a mess

Camerotas is pretty good.
They made a driveshaft for my 55 Chevy few years ago

Anyway, this bushing is obviously worn. You can just about see daylight looking through it when the yoke is in there.
That black rubber spacer was way in the back I assume it's a buffer in case you push the yoke in too far.

That rubber piece, I think is an oil slinger. Keeps the yoke from filling with oil and leaking out.

Yes, that is a BW1356 transfercase.

I had the same trouble, Think I ended up ordering online to get the proper bushing.
