Transmission hard bang

I have an 06 F350 crew cab long bed four-wheel-drive with the torque shift five-speed. Truck only has 87,000 miles pretty much bone stock. On my way to work this morning I was slowing down approaching a stop sign when I started hearing a loud whining. At first I thought there was an airplane above me and then all of a sudden there was a loud bang I didn't know if I got rear-ended or the transmission fell out of the truck. Kept Driving it and it has been fine since. I was told this could be temperature sensor going bad and that the transmission goes into a safe mode and creates a high-pressure situation which makes the transmission downshift real hard. Any ideas or?does that sound pretty accurate

That doesn't sound very accurate. The TorqShift doesn't go to high pressure mode when there is a problem like earlier transmissions did.

The first step is to get the codes read. The places that read codes free CANNOT read Ford transmission codes. You need either a good independent shop or a Ford dealer.

had the codes read in the code came up with something to do with the Tow hall buttonI think it was 8017 don't really remember to be honest with you. I've been monitoring my temperatures a little more closely and hasn't gotten over I think 80 degrees. Have put multiple miles on it since that happened without a problem I guess I'll just wait till it happens again

There are no codes that start with an 8. Getting the actual code number would have helped a lot. Maybe you meant P1780, that means either the tow/haul button wasn't turned on or off during the test, or the switch doesn't work.

Yes I'm sorry that was the code 1780 I just had a backwards but the switch does work

I should probably mention that the tranny was just pulled out of the truck my SCT fitting blew and cracked the rear engine cover so the tranny was pulled out and put back in

Then most likely the switch wasn't pressed while the test was running. The computer needs to see the switch in both on and off positions during the test or you will get a P1780.

Yes, you should mention it. Something was not installed correctly. From here I can't tell what's wrong, but it almost certainly is a result of something going wrong when installing the trans.

I went back to the shop that did the work. They tested it and it came up with no codes. He told me that since everything was disconnected including the batteries that the transmission resets itself between 100 and 200 miles and that the solenoid might've been a little sticky creating a high-pressure situation

That is possible. The trans does take some time to learn the correct pressures, and some of the shifts can slam during that time.
