II see, well my dad was the one who bought the superchip and he claimed that it was supposed to make shifts more "crisp" but the chip was bought maybe 8 years ago so i dont know, but when i drive around in stock the OD off light flashes, turn truck off and switch to economy setting on the dp it goes off and it drives the same, but i do have to rev it higher to let it shift when i turn the power up, so from what im understanding of what your saying, the DP is pretty much saving my tranny right now?

The flashing OD light means you have thrown a transmission code. Get the scanner out and check it out.

I doubt the DP is saving your tranny right now. The damage is already done. What the DP tune has done is increased line pressure so it will shift quicker. This may be why it is actually shifting when in a tune.

It is very hard to diagnose transmission problems without feeling/looking/or hearing it in person. The main thing you need to know is that, like it or not, your trans is toast. You have explained all of the typical signs of trans failure. Start looking into a rebuild.

It shifts in or out of tune but it is better in tune, and it only throws a code sometimes, where can i go to get codes read other than the ford company and have to give up an arm and a leg?

Most code readers will read transmission codes. Auto Enginuity is a popular one around here, but you have a variety to choose from. It is a vital piece of equipment to own when you drive these trucks. It is nice when diagnosing problems too. It will read a whole spectrum of things going on in the engine bay.

If you want it fixed and dont plan to do the swap yourself then you should get it to whatever shop you are going to use while you can still drive it. Most places will scan it for free if you use them for the repair. Surely someone on here can reccomend a good shop in your area.

I don't know. Maybe the initial power up set a pending code and it was in a limp mode.

Hmmmm. Interesting. I did notice it heated up ~40*+ than usual. Was running about 170-180*. Once in OD it was fine but third gear was really wierd. Felt like the converter was unlocking. I thought the trans was toast. I think my OD light was flashing, but I can't be sure. It happen a second time a week later and the OD light on the shifter was flashing. Turned the truck off and back on again and it ran fine.

Sorry to thread hijack!
