Just because it's an International CPS doesn't mean its the blue one. In fact the International CPS for the 444 is probably the best one. In order to get the Blue one from International you need to know the part number, because it's not for a 444 .

Blue CPS is a long gone fad. That is what Jody is talking about. And since the blue CPS advances timing, I can see why he would be concerned.

Another thread in 7.3 performance has the blue CPS retarding timing, so I may have had a false belief about what it actually does. Standing by to get confirmation one way or the other.

"Yes the old international blue ones will throw off the timing because they were designed for in-line 6 cylinder motors."

That is just what Jody told me...

Oh. I think they make other cps besides the blue. The blue is for the 366 and 530 motors. That wont work very good, I agree.

I had never heard that until now. The grey one is in there currently.

Suppose I need to go to Ford then...

Would that still cause it to be random? Its not a consistent die, happens about every 800ish miles if I had to guess...

If you go to International and get a CPS for a DT444E, it will be the perfect CPS for your motor. Tell them you need the later one if you have a Super Duty, an earlier one if you have an OBS. They are two different CPS's, it has to do with the contact metal IIRC.

Would that explain the random cut outs then?

The only thing that will explain the random cutout, maybe, is data logging the event. Most likely suspect is the CPS. Another possibility is a sticking IPR.

I will try a new CPS and see where that goes

Thanks for everyone's input

Thread hi jack but,
I've tried to get the black cps from IH, called all around locally and no one has one and they aren't getting any. What cps do they offer at Ford? just the gray one? How much are they at Ford? I have two black ones from auto stores, but would like one from Ford/IH

Thanks

The black one is as rare as chicken teeth now. Discontinued. International has updated theirs since the gray one. Ford has not.

The black ones you get from parts stores is not the same part as the old black OEM one.
