So we had a wicked powerful thunder storm last night roll through. Just got power back a couple hours ago, still waiting on utilities.

Anywho, we had 3 trucks parked on the lawn, (2 150s and my 350) one of the 150s had the battery out and appears fine.

The other 150 got hit on the antenna, melted the tip, and struck my truck somewhere. Both trucks turn over but won't run. All fuses checked. Tried to connect with AE...no go.

So I'm pretty sure the computers are fried.

On my truck tho, the WTS light comes on and stays on. If the computer was dead shouldn't it not come on at all?

There is no smoke when I crank it either. Gonna go pull the chip to double check, but I doubt it will make a difference.

So ***kin pissed right now.

You can also see a hole the lightning blew in the ground.

Any way to test IDM without the computer?

Yeah, AE won't read the computer... so no tests there.

yeah, under the battery tray, or maybe there are two. never had to mess with one, but have heard of the wires to them chaffing over time, and blowing the fusible link. wouldnt he feel lucky if thats all it was.

If all the fuses and relays are good and no connect to the PCM it's doa. The fusible link won't stop that from communicating.

On a side note I may have a PCM. and def have idms

And Since it's an 02 truck I'll be kind of surprised if you don't need a fuse box too.

If it hit the truck then it also back fed the ground and you are talking about enough amperage to power a large city for a day in one big lighting bolt so.......... You are lucky its only the PCM and IDM and not the whole wiring harness and basically everything electrical.

At this point, I'm not even going to try to mess with it. Deductible is $150, I'm having it towed to a dealership tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer. I just have no money to throw at it, and at this point is going to be cheaper to have the insurance fix it.

Everything looked fine. Took the PCM apart, didn't look or smell burnt. Wiring harnesses and fuses looked fine. Relays normal. Seemed that other than not starting everything but the radio worked normally. I'm hoping its just the PCM and/or IDM.

I'm just worried they'll try to total it. Both the adjuster and the insurance company eluded that that happens a lot. If that's the case I'm really f*kked.

No, if they try to total it, just say no. I bet you can find everything it needs here for pretty cheap. It was probably a "finger" off the main lightning bolt that hit the ground. In that case, it fried the radio "it melted the antenna", and just took out the PCM. We can keep hoping.

let them total it, buy it back. I just did this on our tahoe, I even told them I'll buy it back with a clear title, they said no problem. Mine was hail damage on the roof, which you have to be 7-8ft tall to see.

I suck with electrical. If it was body work I would. Or even mechanical. But this is electrical. God only knows how much is ***ked up on it.
