Tuning or another hidden issue??

Truck is running a VX4 strategy (php rollback) and an atlas 40, stock ECM program is tow tune by php as well. I have a cold start issue. It's severe!

5w-40 amsoil and 2 bottles of rev-x and 1500 miles on injectors from warren, built from my cores (13k miles) and warren said they look like new.

If I don't plug it in at night it will romp and smoke for 30-45 sec. It took 5 min of cranking after letting the glow plugs cycle before it was finally running, wasn't plugged in. If I plug it in it starts up like a top. Also had white & black smoke while cranking. Once running it took 2-3 min to clear itself up. Ran great after that and no other starting issues. Always that way, 1st start sucks the rest are easy!

This problem is only this bad when I have any any tune but stock loaded. IDP extreme street, TSD SPD, Dp-tuner 80econ...no change. Stock almost no issues!!!WTF?!?! Ideas, suggestions??

Also batteries are brand new, literally put them in last night.

Pm responded, and it will fix am if there. Had the same issues with the other shop truck, and it a but wiped it clean.

Please clarify. Is the issue only with our rollback tune, or is it only with the SCT tunes from IDP, TSP, etc? I was a little unclear about your post. If you have time tomorrow, I'll give you a call to discuss. Cold start issues are certainly not good.

Email me again in the morning too or call the shop, I got something for u to try to help narrow down if its something with the rollback, the tune itself, or a mechanical issue that's just being made apparent by the tune.

Chris, let me know if you talk to him. I'd like to get to the bottom of the issue. If it's just with the custom tunes, I've got a few ideas that I could pass on to you. If it's just with my rollback tune, then I still have some ideas that will correct it.

Ok guys I'll clarify sorry about that. The problem is only when I run anyone but Bills tunes. I just started it today...took 1-2 sec of holding the key over after the glow plugs cycled and it fired right off. No romp, no smoke and a smooth idle. And it was not plugged in.

Bill and Chris I will you both in and hour or so. Thanks for the input and the help. I will post results for the rest of the community as we get them.

Talked to Bill and emailed with Chris today. They talked direct and I'm installing the new tune from Chris right now. I'll update in the am. It only happens on the first start of the day.

Actually, I didn't get a chance to talk to Chris. I called twice but he was tied up with customers. I'm sure he's got a good idea what's up. If not, I can try again tomorrow.

Talked with Bill for a bit, we're going to chat more this afternoon. Very interested to see what maps the trucks do like and dont like, by comparing notes we shold be able to get the cold start issues solved once and for all. Getting a couple more stock files over for Bernie to try, later VXCF4 stuff. Well get this nailed.
