turbo surge

i just got a new turbo installed in my truck after my first one failed on me. and the new one seems to be doing what i think is called a turbo surge. i will be cruising on the high way (i was only pulling a 4 place snowmobile trailer with 2 snowmobiles on it). anyone have any idea why it would be doing this? could it be the tune that is on it?

what year is the truck?

There was a TSB out for 2013 trucks with a symptom similar to what you describe and basically you have to replace the turbo IIRC.

I would bet surge may have caused your other turbo's demise if this one is doing it too. what tuning are you running?

im running the spe hot x tune. thinking about switching to the gearhead tuning. heard alot of good things.

That's a max effort race tune, not a DD cruising tune.

i dont feel that is a good excuse to be honest.

But i do agree trying a different tune, even if its not over boosting surge can kill a turbo rather quickly

It's pretty easy to load the h&s tune in that we all know works...... You can go from there on what tunes to run after that.

Tune the truck using the pre-loaded tunes that came in it. Instead of loading the Spe tunes.

I run spe tunes on the hot setting every day, in town driving and highway and have never noticed it surge. What intake are you running?
