Brief synopsis: I just installed a forged rod motor in my truck and got it running last weekend. Ran really rough at first and then has slowly gotten better and better. Put about 60 miles on it to get all the air out of the hpop system and the extended cranks went away. However, it still has an obvious miss at idle, isn't running right and it was throwing a p1316. So I did an ohm test on the valve cover gasket and got one open circuit on each gasket. Ironically they were both in the same position. So I pulled off one vc and unplugged the injector reading open circuit and replugged it back in and measured the resistance. Now it's reading 3.4 like the rest. However, I went to wiggle the uvch and got an open circuit and then a reading. So immediately I'm thinking uvch needs to be replaced. The valve cover gaskets were new, but the uvch were borrowed from my old engine.

Is there anything else I should be considering?

Sounds like you got it on the run. Go to International to get the UVCH. Much cheaper than Ford.

Picked up a set from International on the way to work. Keeping my fingers crossed that this fixes the problem and I don't need to do anything with the injectors.

Thankfully it ended up being just what I was hoping. Replaced both UVCH's and everything is good.

Thanks Tarm. Yea, it was frustrating putting in a new engine and then figuring out why it wouldn't run right. I replaced the valve cover gasket because it came out of an obs, but I overlooked the uvch. So I just used the ones that came out of my truck since it was running fine. Oh well, lesson learned. I"m just glad it was a relatively simple fix.

That's what I figured. Has anyone ever heard of the valve cover gaskets with the uvch hard wired in? Thus eliminating the plug on the inside. I thought I remember hearing about that somewhere.

Probably the same exact part in a different package.

Yes. They are chinese too. Ive gotten more crap from ford that has "made in china" on it. They get pissed and say "we'll have to charge you a 15% restocking fee" when I tell them I dont want that crap. I mailordered these TEN packs of uvch's so no return. But I was mad as heck. I skipped out on an oilpan from ford when I caught wind of them being made in China. I bought one from OReilly that has "made in usa" stamped right in the side.

I ordered the window "regulator"(whole darn cable and track assembly) from ford and it had "made in china" on it. Told them to keep it. Got a bwd brand made in canada instead.

I epoxied the UVCH to the gasket. The latch was broken, so I latched it with epoxy. It won't come loose again, ever.

Have you encountered broken uvch on your lincoln ls Andy? I need new ones of those too. The hooligans that fixed it when she broke down in it silicon rtv'd all the connectors on the dr side. Probably because they broke ALL of them.

Have not had that issue yet. Going through seat heater issues now.

Thats every ford seat heater! They use the cheapest grid heaters elements. Our monterey has had them replaced a few times. I got them from a seat cover company last time. Theyve been working for two years now which puts the ford ones to shame! LOL

Hate to hijack this thread, but from what I saw (and I had the seat completely taken apart), the elements are glued on the seat cushion under the seat cover. I don't know if you can replace the elements without destroying the seat.

Haha! No problem. I got everything I needed about UVCH's.

So you guys have had a lot of issues with the heating elements? Only my dad's 04 king ranch has heated seats, and we've never had an issue with them.

Yea, the heater "grid" is glued to the dang foam most of the time.

My car they have been deleted. No need. It throws heat like a pizza oven.

Seems like the grid gets a break in it and boom, its done working.

You can get the heater grids out. You just need to take your time. Many many people have replaced them on the forums.
