At what point do you need to ugrade the valve springs and push rods?

anytime someone is going to push the envelope further than(intake, chip, exhaust) with (bigger injectors, turbo, etc) i recommend them highly.

some will agree, some will disagree. however when you have tore down as many modded engines as i have, and see some of the damage from weak stock springs and high bp,you would agree.

in the modding game, valve springs and pushrods are cheap insurance... imho

Yea you're right. There isn't a whole lot of talk on here about valve springs and push rods. What I would be curious to know is can valve springs be changed out with the heads still on the block?? If so are there any special tools required?? I am thinking that the pushrods can be changed out by just pulling a nut off the stud, pulling the rocker arm assemblies, swapping out the pushrod(s), and reassembling/torquing the stud nut back down.

I sure would be interested to hear more for sure.

I dont know you would think you could just take the rockers off put air in the cylinder to hold em closed and swap em out.

Kyle are you saying there is a tool to take em out with?

Yea I'm confused here. Are you referring to the valve springs, pushrods, or both?? I would definitely like to hear about this tool. Can these springs be swapped out with the heads attached to the motor??

I wish I would have known about these back when I did my head studs and I had my heads pulled and completely rebuilt with valve job, valves, injector cups, etc. because I would have definitely done it eventhough I wasnt getting injectors at the time.

I used Smith Brothers chromoly pushrods in my build back in 08.
They are excellent quality, and cheaper then a lot of other "makes".

If you roll each cyclinder 1 at a time to top dead center you can do the valve springs with the heads on. make sure you dont loose your keepers and the cylinder is at tdc or you will drop the valve down in with the piston. Napa has the valve spring tool for 29.00

when you compress the spring use a magnet and a small screw driver to remove them just make sure you dont drop them down in the motor
