New here. Hope I can get some help. 2003 7.3, 260K miles - Excursion. The P1316 lead me in several directions. I have already replaced CPS, Under valve cover harnesses, and the IDM. She is still barely idleing, and when in gear almost dies. Drained and replaced fuel filter. Any more needed information, ask me. I need help.

Welcome Richard, P1316 simply means that the IDM has stored codes, what are you using to pull the codes with? Can it do a buzz test or contribution test, can you view live data to observe IPR% duty cycle and ICP pressures?

If you do not have diagnostic scanning tools, if you unplug the ICP connector does it get better?

A mechanic friend has the Ford computer. He said it all pointed to replace a bad IDM. So we did. Still no luck. Idles fine for 5 seconds. Sounds or seems like its getting too much fuel.

Why do you say too much fuel? Did your friend do a buzz test on it?

Yes a buzz test. Originally he said it showed: either injector #7, harness, or IDM. We towed it to his shop. He said he ran other tests and it showed, to be the IDM. So i agreed for him to order and buy it. Wasnt it. He's net telling me exactly what he's getting now, he just says the IDM didn fix the problem and he said it doesnt seem to tbe the injector.

Does the exhaust smell like unburnt fuel? Have you performed a compression test? Even the simple test of flipping over the oil fill cap setting it atop the oil fill tube and seeing if it blows off?

Did you check the valve cover connector, not the UVCH, but the connection going into it. I had the same thing happen to me just this week. Got a repair kit from IH. Both of the connectors on the passenger side (pins were arching together) were toast, repaired it now it runs great

Thanks guys. With this information, and other hands on work we found all the issues. Turned out to be several. The IDM was good. One UVCH connector was bad, drivers side. Injector #7 was bad. The outer passenger side connector valve cover was bad. Finally got her back.
