That was spotted in with a MIG, not ran as a continuous bead. He doesn't need to slow down or "tighten his weave" he just needs to hold the trigger down until hes done welding and quit trying to make it look like a TIG weld.

It's a constant bead and its not tack tack welding.
I couldn't imagine spot/ tack welding that thing. Look at the haz again. The axle tubes are 1/2"? Think and the truss is 1/4" and the top plate is 3/8". I welded the truss together on the bench then wded it to the axle.

That, sir, is not a continuous bead.

It's a good strong weld, but it's not a continuous bead. Nothing wrong with it really, just a lot of extra work on your trigger finger to do it that way.

I guess you could get the same effect by "whipping" the gun as you go across, but that would be both difficult and incorrect. Either way it doesn't meet the AWS standard.

It's continuos. e motion to try to get the heat on the axle tube side. I know a proper mig weld is smooth and not "tig" like but this makes its look better and I've noticed when welding thin to thick it helps.

Weaving or zapping a weld can be useful but most of the time it's pointless.

It doesn't look better ... just different.

Flat and horizontal position is easy with mig ... set the machine to appropriate parameters ... hold proper gun and work angle ... pull trigger ... move in a steady speed and direction. Why complicate it?

Anyways back on topic. Picked up a new plasma the other day. Wanted a Miller but it turns out Hypertherm makes Miller's but the millers are old technology, well older. Do I got a new Hypertherm 30. Can't wait to try it out.

you will never go wrong buying hypertherm, a little more money but they cut better than all other brands
