Balance, shot peen, and polish the rods. You'll thank yourself later. I LOVE having a balanced motor.

Napa or Harbor Freight. I haven't had luck finding the compression tester at autozone or oriely.

Im swaping injectors from my truck, to the engine on the stand. I should be running a compression test friday if everything goes good. I was wondering what are good numbers for the compression.

One thing I didn't see on the list is an oil cooler. I don't know how many miles are on the engine but it's easier to do the cooler with it out of the truck.

Maybe I missed it, but make sure the motor turns over freely, I've seen some where they were seized up from not running, sometimes it's the simple things that get you in the end.

I would also like to know what good compression numbers are, I'll be testing mine come Monday.

The motor turns over great, I just have to run a test so I am not wasting my time sealing parts on a bad engine.

You wanna see at least 350. The closer to 400 the better. More important that they are all within 15% of each other.

Just done a compression test, my numbers didnt read what I wanted to see so time for a rebuild. Is the 97 block a good foundation to start with or would the 01 be better engine to build?

Either one will be fine, if you have both, than go with the one in the best shape.

I am going to teardown the 97 first and see what it looks like before I tear the 01 one out I still want to drive the truck. Might have to try some cryo forged rod in this engine and other stuff.
