As the title says, is there a good online place for stereos and what not? I need a new HU for my Wife's car, all stock but the cd quit and she wants it fixed. So I was thinking double din, dvd, bluetooth, and possible nav. I like Pioneer but I bought a cheap ass one for my truck and can't stand the controls- maybe I'm just getting too old? Also how many people set up in dash dvd to play whenever? how big of a deal is it ? only movies played would be Nemo and the like for my 2 yr old grandson, thanks.

Crutchfield gets pricey, their website however is great for researching equipment and compatability with vehicles and what modules or interfaces might be needed to install the equipment. They usually include some free install pieces, but again still on the pricey end of things.

Sonic is also a great place to search and generally the best authorized pricing you will find.

When shopping you are going to find the same thing for drastically cheaper somewhere, this difference comes from a retailer being an authorized dealer vs a reatailer who is not authorized. What this difference means is that the factory warranty will not be honored on the equipment purchased through a non authorized dealer. Generally these non authorized dealers will plug their own warranty, or just not mention it.

as for playing movies while driving, that will all vary on which unit you ultimately pick, each has an individual method. As for brand selection they are all pretty evenly matched, basically look at the features you get for the dollars you spend, Kenwood right now is a really good bang for the buck brand.

On most head units it's just a matter of grounding the emergency brake safety wire...usually purple in color from the back of the h.u.

I know it's really simple with Kenwood units..just ground it and your good to go.

I'm pretty sure it's the same for the panasonic.

I put a pioneer double din touch screen in my truck and it took me forever to figure out how to get that thing to play while in motion. Come to find out you have to wire a relay into the back of it to trick it. Add one more vote for sonic. Great guys with great service.

fwiw, I didn't see prices too much better than crutchfield :pimp:

Me either. I've never dealt with Sonic but I can say Crutchfields customer service is second to none, I don't mind paying a little extra for the way they treat you. Crutchfield included free vehicle specific wiring diagrams and installation instructions. They even include any adapters or special tools you may need.

I like Crutchfield, customer service is Great, and when you buy something they give you all the mounting hardware you need without extra cost to you, I think that's why they are a little more expensive but worth it.

Most of the things I bought from sonic were 1/2 price of crutchfield. Not much comparison.

Wow, that would be awesome! So far I haven't seen that much difference but I will keep looking.

When I bought my kenwood head unit for instance I paid $699 plus tax at bestbuy. Was about the same price I think on crutchfield. Found sonic after I bought it and sonic had it for $499 or may of been less. When I bought the nav unit for it crutchfield was $650 I paid $250 at sonic on sale.

So theres some good savings to be had thru them.

Keep searching or call. I had called on a product at one time and they offered me a phone discount if I was wanting it then and there.
