I picked up a set of heads last week for my 6.4 one measured 3.733 and the other was 3.736. One looked bad in the water jackets the other looked really good. I had them order me a new set as those were already out of Ford spec. Today I pick up my new ones and I just got a chance to measure them one is 3.729 the other is 3.736.
Am I just being too picky? would you guys run them?

This set looks good but can never be resurfaced again. I am not sure if they resessed the valves to compensate for what they are off. Maybe I'm being anal about it but I paid good money for them and they are already beyond what Ford says they can be.

You would think they could blow the metal shavings out of the ports also.

Where and how did you measure?

Where did you find the Ford specs? I don't remember seeing any in the workshop manual.

Yes they do suck and if Ford thinks those heads are exceptable they have a sh-ty reman department. i can almost bet that if you bring them to the machine shop and have them magnafluxed they will be cracked also. I went thru 4 sets of heads from Ford to get 2 good ones that weren't cracked for my build.

i think that FRED JONES is the authorized ford reman company in the south, ford doesn't actually do any remanufacturing but they should atleast be at ford specs

minimum head thickness is 3.74.

op. you should have seen the turn key reman 6.4 i bought from ford. needless to say i refused the engine and rebuilt my customers unit.

ford didn't want to credit me back on the engine, unless i took another one. I said ok, send down another one. however i will check that out as well.. they're exact response to that was.. " well we will credit you back on the original engine, as we can't gaurantee that any other reman won't be like that".

the front cover was cavitated, and theres was heavy rust corrosion in the water jackets. it looked like they paint golden corral to put paint in their chocolate water fall, and pushed that engine thrugh it. i was worried about a fire, it was so thick.

I was building my own also but my block is now cracked from a sleeve, its a long story. I am picking up a short block today I sure hope its not on par with the heads.

I do hope Ford corrected the valve recess after milling the heads because I just got 2 "new" heads and had a thousandth or 2 taken off after the fact... I just wish they would sell new castings. Or at least have the option.

I have milled 6.0's more than .010" without issue.

cut the valves and seats to regain valve recession, and its fine.

ford's min thickness spec 0f 3.74 is the minimum before anything really needs to be done to regain valve recession...

Yeah, I should have clarified that we always reset the valve recession.

This was one of the heads I received. The valve is in the right location and seats fine but something was machined funny at one point.

Well at least I got luck on the short block, I got a new factory bore block :bowfast::bowfast::bowfast:. Thank God!
I didnt know they came with oil coolers installed either.
I going to the other Ford place in the morning to get back the other head that measured 3.736 so I will have a matching set.
I will be putting my coated IH pistons and cam in also. Maybe she will be running in a few weeks FINALLY!

If you are referring to the area around the intake valves, where they look offset?

Thats suppose to be there. It's. Purpose is to induce swirl in the combustion chamber.

I maybe interested in buying your stock pistons, if you're. Interested in selling them??
