Yukon 3.73 performance R&P install. Help APPRECIATED!

Hey guys, my factory pinion gear took a dump on my 01 f350 SRW because of inner bearing failure. Anyway, I purchased the Yukon 3.73 performance set for 10.5 ford/sterling rear (which is what I have) and my mechanic just got everything almost back together but there is just one problem. The outer pinion bearing will not fit on the new pinion shaft, tried three diffrent pinion bearings we had and none fit on the Yukon but all fit in the OEM pinion.

We then took a set of dial calipers and checked the shaft and the oem pinion shaft where the outer pinion bearing would ride and it measured 1.312 & the Yukon is 1.318.
Anybody have some info that I maybe don't know about (Yukon uses a different bearing)? According to all the stampings and part number on the box this is the correct pinion. This is the kit that is made specifically for the 10.5, not the one that is 10.25/10.5 interchangeable so that is not the issue.

Just a few quick things to check. Do you have a 10.5 or is it a Dana 70 or 80? They use different pinion bearings.

I was looking at master rebuild kits for the 10.5 the other day on Randys R&P and noticed it said "works with oem gear sets only". Not sure what that was about but did see it....

Probably means it don't work with the universal sets 10.25/ 10.5 as in 10.5 gear sets only.

If you have no other options, stick the pinon in the freezer for a few days and heat the bearing, grease the pinion up and quickly press on.

If not call yukon and see what they can tell you.

The outer pinion bearing, as in the little one, correct? The large one that shims go behind has to be pressed on.

I just did all this a couple weeks ago and I don't think the little bearing was pressed on, but I can't remember.

Also, another nice little trick to help, get a Ratech pinion crush sleeve eliminator kit. You will thank yourself later. Took me about 10 minutes to set the preload. With absolutely no strain.

Dont do that. From the OP's measurements thats way too much press fit for that bearing size. It will break the inner race. Should be no more than .003" closer to .0015 would be better.

You could take the pinion to a machine shop and have the bearing seat turned down a few thousandths.

Not sure what you have going on there if you are referring to the smaller pinion bearing. When I rebuilt my rear differential due to severe wear and impending failure on the pinion and carrier bearings (I caught mine just in time) I was able to reuse the factory gear set. It went right together with Timken bearings. I'd be making some calls, doesn't sound right to me. Good luck with it!
