They'er a great upgrade if you're towing heavy, but don't expect to be drag racing with it. IF you plan to tow alot, it's worth the upgrade, otherwise the 5spd will work great. You can also consider a Gear Vendor OD unit if you want RPM drop at highway speeds with the 5spd

i understand that..... i know the short shifter makes a great improvement on the ZF5 so i was wondering what it would do to the zf6

anyone tore down a z-f6 to build it to shift better, or is there a better 6 speed out there that can be used with an adaptor plate??? if its gonna be custom anyway, whats it to leap a little more???

You can make a NV5600 fit if you wanted to take on that task. A NV4500 has to many problems for me to want to do that. I would stay with a ZF5 but if you want to tow a lot and want to spend the $$ grab a ZF6 they do not shift fast AT ALL. Late ZF5s were rated for only 470ft-lbs and the 6's were rated for 650ft-lbs. I have no idea what the NV5600 is rated for but they used some of them in UPS, FEDEX, and bread trucks still all behind the Cummins.

bringing it back...... ive drove all 3 6speeds avaiable, ZF6, NV5600, and G56..... the NV5600 is the best one out of the bunch IMO. i can seem to find an adaptor plate to go from a 7.3 to a NV5600.

im curious becasue someone mentioned they came in pannel trucks behind cummins engines but what came behind the 7.3 powered UPS trucks

im really leaing twards the NV5600 due to is easy shifting (like butter) and reliaility (G56=junk) but an just wanting to know if anyone has dove into this B4???

Cumminskiller's truck was a 3.55 35" tire truck and the low gear made a huge diffrence in the driveability of that truck with the setup we had on that thing.

I drove a ZF-5 last night, and it seems that 1st was actually a low gear. The truck seemed to start in 2nd just fine.

Where as my ZF-6 that orginally came in my 02 the low gear was seperate and I started in 1st.

The OD gear was better in the ZF-6 as well. Lowered the RPMs a bit more so both trucks I have driven with the PSD were on 35s and I felt the ZF-6 could cruise at the same RPM but a faster MPH

Unless the OBS had 3.73s it's apples to oranges. OBS came with 3.55 or 4.10, I'm willing to bet you drove a 4.10 with 35s & that's why it seemed to be a lower OD ratio.

Ahhh Cat Good point, never thought of that. And never checked or asked to see if the truck was 4:10s or 3:55s

I just thought of that one because the OD ratios on E4OD/4R100 & the ZF5/ZF6 should be within 100rpms or less of each other if we can compare truck/truck. I know the autos were actually a hair higher on OD ratio then manuals.
