They are definitely FOS if they say nothing ever changed. The original 38R I bought back in the day sounded NOTHING like ANY of the ones I've bought since. ALL the newer ones sound like rolled over DEATH right out of the box. They all basically sound blown up from the get go. Moaning, groaning and whining.

If you ask me... they probably altered something in the turbine wheel geometry. The sounds seems to come from the turbine. The ORIGINAL 38R's just sounded crisp and clean out the tailpipe. Just like an OTR tractor. The new ones sound like a blown up piece of sh*t.

Saying that nothing changed is a 100% lie. Whether they know it, publish it, or the idiots selling them know it or not... they changed. Right along the time Tom referenced.

I'd call The vendor you got it from

I called Lott, his guy at Garrett left a few years ago so not much help there...

It's not like I am mad, but I just dont understand why they would build one with a stock sized compressor wheel and not tell the end user. I was always wondering why my truck with this turbo, and Chelseas X with this turbo seemed to be down 5-8% on HP from what the math said it should be at...

This in my mind explains some of that.

Chelsea dynoed 347hp with AC's and this bastard child. I expected her to be right at 360-370hp when she went.

I dynoed 399hp with 238/80's when I expected to be about 425-430...

hey Joe. Did you ever get time to check what size the comp wheel was on your 38R??
I know you are busy and have been with the engine swap and all. just thought I would check.

Employee- Aww crap....... Hey boss!
Boss- What?
Employee- I'm out of 38r compressor wheels and I have to get this warranty order out today.
Boss- Damn. Hmm. Just toss on a stock wheel. I'll tell Bob in the machine shop to make you up a compressor housing.
Employee- Are you sure?
Boss- Yeah. We're out of wheels till next Tuesday. It's not like the guy will ever notice.

EXACTLY what happened...

No news. Once my truck is done I can get to it, right now between work and trying to get the truck done I just dont care enough to pull the turbo again.
