i did this last weekend, dont plan on doing it alone!! get the right tools, a tranny jack, air tools, pb blaster and dont rush, sorry i didnt take pics but its pretty simple, and dont put the cross member under the trans until it is completely bolted to the drive shafts, transfer case/extention housing, and when putting a torque convertor on, make sure you spin it and it seats in the bell housing 4 times, and to take it off, dont try and pull the trans out past the tc, take the 6 bolts out of the fly wheel and take the tc with the trans at one time, oh and disconnect the batteries and make sure your creeper is good and lubed up and operational

Go buy a 24" or bigger extension for the bellhousing bolts. 30" seems to be a good start.
Buy a universal or 19mm wiggly, 3/4 will work. For the top two. You cant get them strait.

Pay attention to T case linkage if its manual. Mine had a few washers or shims in it that all fell out. I guessed and dont have 4lo at the moment lol.

Well I am not by any standard small so thats not happening. Hell I have to take half the engine apart just so I can get my forearms and hands to reach things. Grrrrr.

I honestly am considering just taking the truck and BTS tranny up to Marty's shop and seeing what kind of deal he will give me to do the tranny swap. As I understand it for a real mechanic especially with a lift its only about 1 hr job. I am not sure I want to mess with it. It maybe worth a couple hundred to not have the headache. Besides I have wanted to go up and see Marty and his shop for some time now. Bring a case of beer and something of a more sipping variety for the head dog. :D

The last things I unbolt are the trans to motor bolts. Lower the tail of the tranny and those top two bolts are easily accessible. First two out and last two in.

Marty is extremely fair price wise. Worth the $.

He did mine twice.LOL

Oh and for anyone curious a e350 van auto trans does not work in a f450 truck.
LOL

What was different?

It seems there is a ton of mods they do to get the same stuff to fit in a van vs truck.

When i got my bts, i crawled under the truck and started to look at things, then hauled it to a local shop who installed it for 300 bucks. IMO if you dont have the all the correct tools its not worth it. I like tinkering on stuff as much as the next guy but they had it done in 3 hours, would have taken me a whole weekend plus i would of had atleast 300 bucks in buying tools.

It's even easier if you used to have a 6 speed, then you could just stick a ratchet up in there. I took my tranny out in 2 1/2 hours a couple days ago buy my self..

It pays to have the right jack!

I wouldnt even risk using the same cooler if you fried the last trans.. I dont care how many times you flush it there is still a chance for some debri to be left in there.

Its Easy, Its just time consuming. Find a Buddy to help you put it back in and its very straight forward. No special tools required, just a brain. An impact and air wrench makes things go much faster. Take your time and drink plenty of beer.
