2000 sd 7.3 build up tips

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D0Sw3OAhtMThis is a stock bottom end sponsored by FFD, push rods, valve springs, studs and you'd be shocked to know what injectors he's running, he finished 3rd behind 2 900hp dmaxes.. I've seen him beat both trucks many times this year.... Including the Tymar 12...

2000 sd 7.3 build up tips

If you're gonna cut valve reliefs in the pistons you might as well have them coated, but he's kinda on a budget here, has two engines to work with, um didn't Ross run 400/400s in his pull truck and never bend a push rod after what 50 hooks, when pistons hit valves with after market pushrods and...

2000 sd 7.3 build up tips

Um a good harmonic goes a long ways, saves the mains from self destructing at 4500 rpm and lots of boost.. I forgot Prostock engines in the NHRA run standard shelf BBC or BBF balancers because their balanced right??

    Running a bht3b as a single?

Call you're local turbo shops and see if they'll trade for an H2E?? Then you'd be closer to a T4 setup, I've done some horse trading with turbo/fuel shops as sometimes they do core exchange towards products you need, with those a 250/100s an H2E would be nice compliment to them...

2000 sd 7.3 build up tips

Take your old engine out, scatter it on the bench, put a $1600 rebuild kit in it with MAHLE pistons, have a GOOOOODDDD machine shop machine it and check everything, forged rods are tougher than you think. Deck the block, put some new cam bearings, bore it, freeze plugs, and a good hot tanking...

    Running a bht3b as a single?

An HT3B on a 7.3?? Hmmm a T6 turbo intended for the Big Cam cummins back in the mid 80s?? T6 flange to start, big exhaust side, big compressor side, maybe some 400/400s might spool it hard enough quick enough with a cam and some head work, but thats alooot of charger for a 7.3 to run on the...

i wanna crack 800 hp.... on a budget

Do you know what the cost of a 7.3 CGI block is, enough to justify tuning and alot of other things like girdles and block filling, not to mention you're already gonna be using billet stuff at that point, alot of engines not just the 7.3 tune the cylinder pressures lower in the lower rpm where...

i wanna crack 800 hp.... on a budget

800hp, reliable and driveable on the street maybe two different things, will it daily drive ok? yup. There's enough guys on here doing it, do they have the coin in it in the right places? yup.. Cheap, not so much... There are gobs of threads on Rods, Girdles, block fills, you'll need a top notch...

    Let's do some bench racing

What most I think fail to understand is that Double Overtime was an engine built by TFS performance... Not an engine any of us will build to that level, everything was tweaked, yeah the mechanical Vpump really brought it to life, but the CNC ported heads and the valve train to get it to 6500 rpm...

    Busted input shaft

A billet shaft will keep this from happening again, swamps has em for around 250 bucks, MAKE sure to flush your cooler while its out!!! I'm running is the Adrenaline and so far ok luck, still throws ICP code, but 250/200s are border line Gen 3/dual hpops ya know. I'm running a D66 turbo (wasted...

    Busted input shaft

Talk to Bill Cohcran or Matt at Gear head or even call Jonathon at swamps about tuning the trans, they know alot more than I do, I remember years back driving a truck with the "crappy Banks Trans command" and the lock up was delayed in 3rd gear under hard throttle to help assist in converter...

    Busted input shaft

The shifting sequence needs to be adjusted, you can lock your converter after the 3rd gear is achieved, thats a clean break on the shaft, clearly a shock load break, the problem with PWM converter strategies is that the trans constantly hunts for gears, I've spent a good deal of time working...

    Comp Beehive Spring questions

The stock rotators are supposed to turn the valve like 2.5 degrees every time it moves up and down to help keep the sealing surface true, this was designed to help stop hot spots on the valve as it was placed under heavy load conditions... I kinda wondered the same thing myself, how does the...

    SPE's 7.3 on the Dyno

In my honest opinion if someone were to develop a set of true competition pistons, like the "Mahle's" Swamps offers, I called Ross they said they build an industrial like piston, with a larger bowl and lower "installed height" someone could build a truly "engineered pulling engine and compete...

    SPE's 7.3 on the Dyno

I give it a year and the 7.3 will be a 1000 to the ground and drivable... With cam and piston development in order we will be close to 2.6/2.8 competition level easily... This is so good to see happening!!!

Mahle Forged Aluminum pistons from swamps, anyone running them yet?

Thank you so much for the solid info!! But would it help with changing the bowl design and piston height to help utilize all the fuel nowadays.. I know with a lot of the larger engines I've worked on piston bowl design has played a huge counter part in the terms of higher horsepower ratings..

Mahle Forged Aluminum pistons from swamps, anyone running them yet?

I have been doing some research on piston and bowl design and see that Mahle Motorsports has built a set of pistons for us 7.3 guys, anyone running the pistons that swamps has on their page yet??

    7.3 Engine Build Disaster

What Idaho said!!! Document the people you talk to, and when you talked to them, and what your third party teardown inspection reveals. Fortunately for me I work for a large OEM with a complete machine shop in house so we have seen thousands of cranks over the years. Like I had stated before, a...

    7.3 Engine Build Disaster

After reading what you posted, this sounds like a true sloppy build, I have been building everything from 7.3s to 3412s and every thing in between. Any builder that is competent on a first time build should pay special attention to everything, I hand built my 7.3 myself and its a fairly stout...
