I must have missed the IDM you mentioned above then. The harness would be my last resort. Check the injectors for torn or aging o-rings.

Yes but it involves taking out your cover. Look down where the gp are j stalled and see if you see any marks that it has been taken out (fitting goes in there for compressing tests).
11k for a rebuild on a 7.3 motor???? No no no. Take it out yourself. Have a reputable machine shop break it...
IMO Nothing’s more clean than an oem setup. The fit is perfect. You don’t need to go to a t4 setup less you wanted to. Kcturbo stg2 or a dieselsite gtp38r would be a perfect upgrade to tow and put around town with.

Purchase a v8 triton gasser. Can’t beat it for the price and reliability. Easy to maintain and at or under 2500mi a year, it will last quite a long time.
