Indeed I have read cr_mcgruders threads. I've read them on 4btswaps and ford-trucks. Very informative posts. Last I read he's logged about 40k miles on his conversion and still loves it. Have you ridden in his expedition??

The main bearing hole alignment I have seems to be typical of what others have seen.....oil pan is on. I did not paint the inside of the pan either because I was afraid of it coming off and clogging things up. Putting IP on tonight.

Well things have been slow coming but progress none the less. The motor is in and im satisified with how things are looking. I pulled the injector/ignition portion of the wiring harness and im cutting off what is unnecessary. This us really helping to clean up the engine bay. For a throttle control im trying something a little different. I pulled the butterfly out of the current electronic throttle assembly and I'm going to install a specially made contol arm that will activate a rod which will control the IP. I'm removing the return spring on the IP so this will reduce the force needed to control the IP. This idea could fail, lol. This will essentially make my 4bt DBW. Just maybe on down the road this will me to build in some type of electronic high idle control. This will take a bit of setup but as long as the vibrations aren't too bad I think itll work. It doesn't look like much but here's the newest. Valve covers will be painted to match the body color. Other under hood items will also be PTM.

Very cool build!

I would put multiple layers of sound deadener or Dynamat on the inside and outside if I were you. A loud engine can get tiresome on a long road trip.

I'm not sure removing the return spring is a good idea. Little but of gum builds up and the throttle sticks is not going to be a good situation.

First off probably no hood stack, lol.

I've thought about this return spring. I haven't checkout how much torque the elec throttle produces. This is deffinatwly on my list to check out thoroughly. The return spring is pretty beefy on the pump. Perhaps maybe I can install a different style/lighter weight return spring.

There's is also 1 thing so far I'm going to have to back track on a little. Mating the transfer case to the tranny. Getting a shaft splined is going to be more difficult than what I thought, and maybe at a not so good price. As previously pictured I had a plate all machines to adapt the 2 together, just no shaft. The gen 2 expedition comes with a 4416 transfer case while the 3rd gen has a 4417. 4416 will bolt right up to an m5r2. I believe they share the same internals just different front cover castings so if I can find an 4416 front casting or whole trans for a good price I'll just do that. It really stinks spending hours machining an adapter just to toss it. :( o well.

Im working on my exhaust manifold right now. It started as a 5.9 manifold and had surgery done. It turned out well and it will look nice after some fresh paint. I'm trying to think ahead for the Pyro placement and I noticed 2 tapped holes already existing. One is on the rear most cylinder port and the other near the front port. Can I drill and tap one of these holes through and utilize it for my pyro?? Im leaning towards using the rear most as ive read it gets the hottest. Thoughts on this.

The old kearney trecker has been at it again. Got some sealing surfaces cleaned up like new again. I sure love doing this stuff on my own. The setup for the turbo to manifold machining took a bit of time, but it turned out good.

Now that's some good porn right there. I've got some serious mill envy going on right now. How do plan to go about closing off the end of your manifold? I like the headers/manifold that the guy in the other Cummins thread posted. Do you have a tig? Can't remember if you posted that already.

Now you just need an HX35 over HX55 for a good compound setup. Can't remember, is this p-pumped or VE pumped?

You are probably right. It was kind of a joke. With a p-pump and injectors it we o u know probably work OK though.

Just a ve pump. H1c turbo. Not the best turbo, but its what I got for now. Not a rediculous HP goal, just 200-225. I'm thinking that should be fun and reliable.

Cool. I think I read somewhere that the VE is good for around 300hp. Plenty enough headroom for your application.

Great build, thanks for sharing. I am wanting to do a 4bt swamp in on old International Scout i 60's model someday. Love reading swaps like this, take the old mechanical reliable and mix it w/ modern design technology and walah! I bet she will get killer MPG's.

Looking good! Yes I have ridden in it and it drives really nice. He hasn't done any power mods so it's kinda slow, but dead reliable quite smooth. I'm sure you won't be disappointed

How do you like the 12V in the OBS truck? And how noisy is the 4bt in the cab?

As I said I have the motor mounted in place. But the fit is very very tight against the firewall, especially right up against the top rear valve cover. This can kinda be seen in the pic. There is no metal on metal contact, but the vc deffinately rubs the fiberglass heat shield material. I don't want to but I'm tempted to put a body lift on it. I don't want a 3" lift, I think 1.5" would be more than enough. So I might buy a 3" kit and modify the pieces. I don't want to do this, but I might. I'm working on getting the tranny bolted to the motor. The center console area is down to the transmission tunnel and I'm working on enlarging the shift tower hole. Its been cold here and progress is slow. Will keep you all posted. I hope to test drive this thing mid march.
