Been tossing around the idea of these for a while. I've talked to Jesse Warren a bit about them in the past and he recommended them for my application. Just wondering who has ran that setup, and how you like them. My biggest concern is EGT's. My truck is a DD and tows quite often. For now I'm still on stock bolts and stock turbo (does have a WW in it though). Around here I'm not too worried about EGT's, but every other year we go to Colorado, towing about 8K. Took it last year and with everything stock I was pushing it on temps through the mountains. I don't want to step up to a bigger injector and have the temps get even more out of hand. How much worse can I expect with the 155's? I never intend to build a high HP truck, so I'm not worried about regretting not going bigger after it's all said and done. I have a couple injectors that need replacing and considered 155's since I would already be in there.

You'll be perfectly fine with 155s. It's only a small increase from stock. I say go for it.

I said not going for "high" hp, but who is ever against "higher"! I mean I'm not looking to build a 500hp truck. But a few extra ponies from a slightly larger injector wouldn't hurt a thing.

Just thought about going a little bigger since I already had to replace them. I'm not dead set on them yet... just tossing around the idea.

Currently running Eric's Aggressive Street.

Well it's the cost of new injectors plus the cost to have them built. So it doesn't save you money. Unless you're thinking of going with built from cores, which I would be a little reluctant to do.

Do you have a fuel system in place, or at the very least a fuel pressure gauge? Do you plan on upgrading turbo at any point? Are you planning to stud? I wouldn't even consider putting injectors in without studding/deleting first. What other mods do you have now? Coolant filter? EGR delete? Gauges?

It will get studded eventually. Typical mods I guess. Coolant filter, gauges, egr delete, blue spring. Would probably do a RR with the injectors. Haven't put in a permanent fuel pressure gauge yet, but plan to. I know maybe a Powermax or MTW would benefit a larger injector, but shouldn't the stocker handle the small bump from stepping up to a 155?

I was under the impression the stock fuel system would easily handle 155's.

The stock fuel system should handle 155s just fine. Many guys run 175s with no problems. On the other hand some peoples stock fuels systems don't even handle their stock injectors. An easy way to know would be to invest in a fuel pressure gauge.

155/stock is a great option. It is only a small bump over stock and you should be able to tow just fine. Especially with a good tow tune.

IMO if you are sending them in because they are having major problems then I would either go with Remans, or use Warren Diesel and pay the extra for new solenoids. That should take care of your problems.

A stock fuel system that is working correctly would easily handle 155s, which of course requires a fuel pressure gauge to know if it is working correctly. 155s should be fine, just make sure to get your tuning adjusted for it and also a tune that will pull some fuel back if you need to tow HEAVY or you are going up steep grades. 8k is not extremely heavy. If for some reason your pump cannot supply the 155s with enough fuel, look into getting a 6.4 pump and have it setup to feed the stocker. As for egts in my opinion it is all in the tuning(to a certain degree). As for your head gaskets, studs would be higher on my list than injectors.

Of course most who say stock fuel system supports 155 and 175's are also measuring fuel pressure at the fuel bowl, and I ask people to try those readings at the back of the head and see if they feel the same way.

OP, I'm only asking about your choices simply because I'm reading your original post and the things that jump out at me are you two heavy, and often, you are already concerned with temps in some cases, and you seem to be more about towing safely than making a small bump in power.

What you're looking for can certainly be done, and I see no issues with going with a 155 and even a small nozzle upgrade too, with the appropriately matched turbo (powermax would probably be pretty good) and good tuning. I just didn't get that impression from your first post.

155/stock is OK with your stock turbo, but the stock turbo is less than ideal as soon as you add any performance tune to the mix. Even with stock sticks, you will see the smoke or haze.

As far as temps, weight, speed and ultimately load; the nozzle, tune and your driving style are the biggest pieces to your puzzle.

The majority of my towing is a 18ft trailer with two 1900lb mowers on it. So I'm never really towing that heavy. I have towed heavier on occasion, but it's always local, and short trips where I'm not worried about it too much.

But I get what you guys are saying. It really would make more sense to just replace with stock size and be done with it, since I'm not really looking to upgrade a turbo in the near future... or even other supporting mods at that. Like I said, I'd just been tossing the idea around. But more than likely, I'll just end up with some stock replacements and call it a day.

My current injectors aren't really bad. Just some pretty bad stiction. I've tried Revex and Archoil.... neither of which helped all that much. I get weak buzz tests on a couple of them, so they are just ready to be changed. No big deal. I figure I've gotten 155,000 miles out of a stock set (pretty sure they have never been changed), so they've held up better than most. I keep it plugged up when it's cold and I never have a problem with it. It still cranks even when not plugged in, but she runs like hell until it warms up some. Just tired of fooling with plugging the thing in every night, or waiting on it to clear up if I can't plug it up some days.

I know this is off the original topic sort of, but it's been mentioned to add a 6.4 pump to supply the stock pump. How is that set up? Just mounted in line before the stock pump? That might be a rookie question, but I've never actually seen how it's plumbed in.

There are 2 ways to go, sump and in-line or just in-line. The issue is more about hose size and fittings. The 6.4 uses 1/2" line, which is larger than the original. Being the lines after the original pump are about 3/8" and about 1/4" to the heads with much smaller openings through the banjo bolts and even smaller holes in the injectors, using all stock sizes should be just fine. The whole idea of the second pump is to reduce the work of the original pump so it can keep up with the larger requirement of the injectors or tune. Power has been tapped directly into the original fuel power harness.

So basically the worst part is stepping up in line size before you get to the 6.4 pump, then stepping back down in size before the stock pump?

I have 190/stock nozzles. Stock 2003 turbo with a billet compressor wheel. Stock fuel system, not studded. I wouldn't see the point in getting 155/stock nozzles just my opinion. I've towed 10,000lb generators without a problem on my extreme street tune. I'm sure a tow tune would have even been better. The performance gainwas nice and it's been safe for me. Now if I wanted to stick with 190"s when I get a bigger turbo and fuel system all I would have to do is nozzles. That's what I would reccomend for anyone.

Bigger sticks, towing 10K on an extreme tune, without being studded??? I wish I had your luck!!!

The way my luck goes, if I towed a roll of toilet paper on my Agg Street tune I'd blow this thing all to hell!

Great comment. When I used my extreme tune to tow, I had the lowest temps period, but I had the most advanced injection timing! There is a reason tow tunes do not advance the injection timing too much, especially if you load the engine for longer bursts (cylinder pressure). With his stock nozzles, his risk is definitely lower.

Answer me this....

Normal driving egt's with SRL are lower on mine than they are with Agg Street. Like SRL will run out 600 degrees at crusing speed, but Eric's tune will run about 700. Just the difference in the way each tuner writes their files?
