Just the larger bolts for 05 up.
Maybe the steering column intermediate shaft

Does anyone know if there is a difference in steering boxes between 2wd and 4wd gas and diesel. The VIN provided in the thread is for a 2wd gas, wanted to make sure its going to work.

This thread is definitely all over the place. I have the frame from the radius arms forward from an 08. Am about to coil swap my 03 6.0.

Goals:
Run the new 08 axle with a 2011+ steering box on an 03 truck.

Needs to change the gear box
-change power steering line to the Hydro boost
-drill larger holes in frame.
-steering shaft to under the dash?

The gear box from the 08 frame I have is splined. Which is whatever, I will be replacing anyway. What I would like to see is a picture of what I need to change from the gear box to the steering wheel to get this to work on my 03-04 6.0

Thinking of making a youtube video/time lapse if I can get the shaft situation figured out on the older truck.

Idk what your stock shaft looks like, but my understanding is that the lower shaft is what you need to replace. Someone said they drilled out the rivets and used bolts to replace those.... Then used the lower shaft from a newer truck....
BTW, im interested in doing a newer box on my 06, so, post your findings please.

They didn’t start using a 2 piece shaft until 08. If putting 11-16 box in a 05-07 truck you need both steering shaft pieces, the firewall boot, and the bolts for the box you’re using. You’ll also need to drill the frame out for the larger bolts.

Some 08 trucks have a splined box but still a 2 piece shaft. On those you only need to change the lower part of the shaft.

99-04 trucks need same parts as the 05-07 but if keeping the leaf spring suspension I’m not sure what people are using for the taper difference on the newer pitman arms.

Is the 11+ box swap worth it? I’m currently running a 2000 with the stock box with 340k on it and 05 axles. Wanting to replace it cuz it wanders like crazy. Wondering if it’s worth it to go with a newer one or just swap in a blue top or whatever

I have a 2007 F250 6.0 and just swapped to a 2016 6.2L F250 steering box. The effort required to turn is significantly less and I have much less play in the steering, but not zero play (probably because the box I used came from a truck with 90K miles). Overall I would say this is a worth while mod, as the red/blue whatever boxes are the smaller box with a questionable track record. I was able to do the whole swap for around 350 dollars.

I will be doing a full write up on this and possibly a youtube video, but here are the extra parts I needed:

-2011+ steering box- Its still unclear to me if the 2011 box is the same as the 2016+. I seem to remember reading somewhere that in 2016 they got larger. I used one from a 2016 F250 6.2L gas 4wd with 90K miles I found on ebay, but I think they are all the same regardless of engine, just different pitman arms. My box came with a pitman arm, which was slightly longer, but I went ahead and used it because I did not have a puller handy. No issues with that so far.

-2011+ Steering Shaft- Got this on ebay as well. This needs to be both the intermediate shaft and the lower shaft (they are 2 different parts but often sold together)

-2011+ mounting bolts (3)- This was the hardest part for me to find at a reasonable price. The ford dealership wanted 30 dollars per bolt, which I was not willing to pay. I ended up finding new old stock on ebay which was a pack of 4 for 40 dollars. I tried to find a bolt at fastenal but could not find one with the correct dimensions.

Those are all the extra parts I needed. This did require several mods to make work:

-Slightly bending the power steering lines
-re routing the lines
-drilling out the frame for the larger bolt (I used a 5/8" drill bit)
-removing and replacing firewall grommets from both steering shafts
-some grinding on the box itself to clear the sway bar mount
-cutting down the sway bar mount bolt to clear the box.

Anyone having issues with the lines not sealing, is there an o-ring or something. The lines will not stop leaking and ford doesn't list o-rings. Do the lines need changed out? Putting a 2016 box in a 2010.

I haven't done my conversion yet. This is the hose I have seen recommended. Hopefully this is helpful:

Soo the 11+ boxes are a direct bolt in to 08 -10 but are the 08-10 boxes an upgrade over the 05 - 07 boxes or are they basically the same? Would like to upgrade my 06 box since it totally trashed. I have access to a low mile 08 box, is it worth the swap or find a 11+ instead?

Upgrade? 99-10 are absolutely identical. I would say the quality is no different than 11+. Personally I would keep the body lines the same.
