only thing I can tell may be the difference is the 8u5a-17e678-df has the provisions for the compass to mount to as the other one the compass mounts directly on the windshield.

thats what i was afraid of. seems that they are backordered for at least three months! the one dealer(in montana) i have found with one in stock wants $1700 plus shipping!!!LOL thanks for looking!
