Large pump shaft seal? Sorry Morgan your talking to someone who know that power goes in the trans, witchcraft happens, you loose ~20% power and diffrent ratios come out the back LOL

LOL. There are two seals on the pump shaft. One called the torque converter shaft seal (little orange one at the tip) and the pump shaft seal, which is the large black one pressed into the front cover of the pump. It may be hard to do, but check and see if the spring behind the inner lip of the seal is still intact. The spring is similar to the one found in the front crank seal pressed into the lpop cover.

The things you can't see: Pump o ring, square style ring that surrounds the outside of the pump. Black with a green trace.

Pump gasket- in place behind the pump up against the case surrounding the OD pack.

Better? No?

Im assuming you did eliminate the main harness connector, dipstick tube, and cooler line tube nuts from the equation right? Sometimes they run and drip down to the bellhousing.

My guess is you'll need to tear down the pump and remove the shaft to fully inspect it. I'd go ahead and pressure test the tc, and get a TC seal, pump o ring, pump shaft seal, and pump gasket coming from ford.

There are very few possibilities for a leak coming from the bellhousing.

The orange seal is for tcc this will not cause an external leak and the other seal is the converter hub seal there is no pump shaft in this trans the converter hub is what drives the pump.. The shaft with the orange Teflon ring is the stator support. This is why it's hard to find leaks unless you can dry it off and check even let it run on the hoist for a while because once apart it is a guessing game and from what I can tell that has happened more than once on this unit

Yea man, Lamens terms for those not well practiced in this area makes it easier for them to indentify over the interwebs.

The freaking shaft protruding from the front of the pump is literally bolted to the lower half of the pump. Hence why I called it the 'large pump shaft'.

There isn't much to cause the leak, and it is basically a guessing game until you can get the pump out

We would be glad to send you a new pump, gasket, O-ring and seal to replace that one. The seal was surely replaced as we don't re-use any. This way when you do pull the trans out you can just pull the pump and replace it. Also when you stored the trans for that extended period of time was the converter in it? The weight of the converter and all the time passed sitting could have damaged the seal with the stress of the converter weight.

that would be great! Its already out.

It was stored the same way it was shipped and still strapped to the pallet. so the convertor was in it yes. But all the other times it was installed right after I got it and it still leaked.

Alright that will work man I'll get that going sounds good. Rave just remembers replacing and checking everything and making sure it all seemed right before it left the last time. It was just a thought that possibly sitting that long could have coincidently made it leak when you put it back in the last time. But we will def get one fixed up for you. He will even be glad to talk you through replacing the old one if you like.
