Unless its practically impossible, I really wanna do this on one of my obs trucks. Partially just to be unique. I have friends with the means to fabricate what I should need. So really I'm lookin for advice on what Im getting into. I was also looking for CFM numbers but couldn't come up with anything.
Also, I wasn't sure if there may be a better place to post this..

It's a waste of time brother. Cool to be different but it's a step backwards from just dropping a 38r in there and being done.

The turbo will only support about 500 HP and at that level its a timebomb at that level. The spool up is great but in all honesty ford built the entire engine around having less rotating mass

It spools as fast as it does on a smaller motor, I think it would choke a 7.3 up a bit. I bet it would be a blast to drive but have terrible top end.

Well the truck I wanted to put it on, I wasn't planning on more than like 450. If even. & its a zf5 So I was thinking it'd be nice with quick spooling. Could it be reliable at that level on a 7.3?

I'm not really worried about effort required vs what I could've done simpler though. It doesn't really matter if it takes a long time as the truck isn't being driven. And I'm not necessarily in any hurry to have it going. I was more concerned with what it'd take to make it happen, and if it'd work decently. I was kinda hoping for comparable to a d66 but with really good spool up.

then do a 38r.... geat spool up.

the circuitry involved to controll the vgt is very involved. can it be done, yes, is it worth it, no. there are plenty of great spooling turbos out there that will do exactly what u want for less money and will be reliable.

VGT's on non-vgt vehicles is a huge pain in the dick unless you enjoy wasting time to wire it up and control it.

Dont get me wrong, VGT's are amazing... but the one you are considering installing wouldn't be worth the time/effort involved in it.

Gotcha, this is basically what I was waitin to hear. I didn't know what it takes to do that. Some kinda standalone computer? Or just some intricate wiring?

Depends. I'm sure (although not positive) that the VGT mechanism on the 6.7 is electronically controlled by the ecu... so you'd have to find a way to vacuum control it in order to work on a 7.3 more than likely.

Not sure if it would be apples to apples, but there is a guy who put a 6.0 vgt turbo in an OBS. If you look it up, you should be able to find it. It was a guy on the org. If I remember right, there was a very in depth description on how he did it. Just saying it might be worth a read. I don't remember the results, or even if it would be comparable.

A few people have put VGT's on 7.3's and even 12v's. MOst of them are lengthy builds and the outcomes w/ the new vgt aren't spectacular since the yare mostly OEM turbos being used that Iv'e seen.
