I believe HRT and a few others were working towards putting a Duramax VGT on a 7.3 over in the 7.3 Aftermarket section.
Not sure how far along they got, but it was an interested read.

I think I'll have to look real close at one down at my dads work. (works at a dealer)
I'm not scared to get into something complicated, as I partially wanna do it for fun. BUT if it would be possible to build a vacuum or other kind of mechanical controller, I probably couldn't do it, as I just have no experience with intricate electronics. (far less than scared to learn though)

I Dont understand. Couldn't they run a mechanical linkage off the turbo to a waste gate? Thinking out side the box here BTW. Have the vgt controller rotate as drive pressures go up until there is no movement left and then the waste gate let's go.

On edit: tried to draw it up, waste of time... Do a gtp38 or whatever t4 you want to put on your truck. It'll have lower drive pressures...

I want something one off mostly. If nothing else, I could make something to keep the vanes completely open. No? While trying to make a sort of controller?

If I remember correctly, their plan for the D-max turbo was to use the input from the EBPV to actuate the vanes of the VGT, and base these inputs off of drive pressure, boost, throttle position and rpm. I do remember Dave907 running into some issue with the EBPV inputs though.
There are a few 12V guys running VGT's via a mechanical actuator, however I'm not sure how feasible this would be with the Honeywell turbo.

You'll have to stop posting to.get anything done.

You're mistaking pessimism for what I would call ability to foresee problems. Anything can be done, not anybody can do it. I wasted a year fitting a turbo.off a subaru onto my 4g63 and wound up with a turbo that moved less poundage.than one I could have dropped in. Having been.there, you're probably going backwards from what you have.

Don't get me wrong. I understand what you're saying. This is my toy truck, which probably wont get bigger than just 160s. The truck I actually drive is getting a 66 from barder.

If you want different than most save your money and drop a bigass Precision bb 3.0 class charger. 5k for the turbo and some work to shimmy it in a random spot with a waste gate and then use an s366 with a bigass exhaust housing for a HP turbo. Lol. Different in more HP...

Lol yeah! If i was going all out it'd be sweet. But this trucks not getting money thrown at it. I can get the turbo for a price I really like, and fabricate the rest of the hard parts (what I don't have laying around) I just already know I'll have hell with the vgt control. But doubt I'd be happy with it running just open all the time, as the spool up probably wouldn't be all that amazing. Which basically defeats the reason to even do it.
I also considered an ht3b/stock turbo with quick spool compounds. Just cuz I have ht3bs readily available, but the fabricating is on par with what I'm considering (minus vgt controller) but without the novelty. Not to mention an ht3b uses a lot is space for only 1100 cfms

Why not use somthing similar to the 7.3 wastegate actuator to mechanically control the vgt. As boost comes up the arm pushes and opens the vanes. That's how the 12v guys do it with the 6.7 cummins turbo. I havent actually seen the ford 6.7 turbo so I don't know if thatd even work tho.
