But you also had a garage iirc, right? Alot of apartments don't even have a garage option. Never stopped me though either, I'm always working on something right in the parking lot of my apartment.

You prefer if I bs you and say the aftermarket is still plentiful? Its been the last two years. Ive had this 00 since new. And a couple others along the way.

It's a fact of life on a twenty year old platform.
On the other hand, you'll drop 40k on a "old" 6.7. And you'll need a bit more than a bottle jack and a creeper to fix it on the side of the road.

I remember the first time I met you, you had just finished your truck. Apartment garage, driveway same thing, I didn't do to mine what you did to yours, but the one thing we can both say, WE did it. Ourselves. We did not pay somebody to do it. The only lit I bought was the Hypermax kit to mount my H2E. I built the hard line regulated return in my driveway.

Although that weekend was a good time, it was not the first time we met. That was at Babe's in Roanoke when you were passing Dirk stacks of 100's for parts.

Yeah and I also had to rent another two storage places, which I did work in at both of them. And I had to put my motorcycle in the living room. Now working on my 6.0 I do that in the driveway. It doesn't fit to well in the garage.

Oh yeah, I remember that. Still running those injectors.

And yep. While she isn't the fastest truck out there, she is quick enough for me. And it was all done by me, The only thing I pay to have done on my vehicles is tires mounted and Alignments. That's only because I don't have the machines. I can align with tape measures, and usually do. put it on the machine for a final check and fine tuning. I can break down a tire by hand, but fork that crap.

its easy to work on trucks when you are home.. i have been in new york working for a year now.. not exactly feasible to haul my dually to work with me and rebuild it.. especially when it needs lots of machine work.. i dont exactly carry those items required to machine the block and balance the crank and press in cam bearings.. but i guess you have done all that yourself so you can cut guys down for not being able to do that exact thing.. when i go home with for time off, i have a problem with needing to work on toys vs visiting my family members.. family comes first.. thats why i pay someone to do it for me..

I wouldnt build an engine in a truck that i couldnt put in a building and have a cement floor. Last time I pulled an motor at my house after the shop was flooded, the engine hoist was sinking into the asphalt. Then trying to frikkin rassle the engine on a stand across a ***ked up apron, no thanks. Ive r&r'd five 7.3s on gravel drives and other non-ideal conditions. Im getting too old for srupid shti like that. Can I? Yes. Will I anymore? Nope. Fixing brakes or yanking a trans isnt nothing like pulling a motor and having the vehicle outside.

yes, i do what i can when i can.. last summer i pulled the motor in whitey, replaced both headgaskets and had it back in and running all in about 30hrs all by my lonesome.. that was stupid, i dont recommend doing that just to make a pull on a Saturday night..

to each their own bud.. thats all i was trying to get at.. that built not bought statement comes to mind and i think its a dumb statement because at some point someone else built the parts that gets put on the truck..

I get the whole "i did it myself" bs. Buuuuut, there are times i just cant do or flatly, dont want to fix stuff. Our winters are brutal. I live in a damn field, after working outside all day i dont want to fix anything.
