Getting some head porting done to maybe hit my goal of 700 hp and make the truck more driveable

nope. still not assembled either. I think I have every piece sitting here now. just have to make the time and ignore some of the 'honey do list' until it runs. I was going to procrastinate but I figure I can do that later.


its a hard choice, as the 7.3 made more power then I could use before it blew up...but
... to add them later gets very pricey. $500 fire ring gasket kit etc

swamps quoted me a price that was very reasonable for the work (I think I paid a local shop more for a stock rebuild on my heads so I should have just used swamps), but the shipping cores across the border etc adds up fast.


I keep bouncing back and forth between using what I have and spending the $$

I personally would port them. Its one of the reasons per cc of fuel these trucks dont make power. Well, not like a 6l or any cr truck. Obviously the cr truck has superior ability to inject fuel even several times per event but they also arent efficient when just driven normally.

I think you could make way more power with much less by working the heads. Turbo will work way better.

I know its easy to spend your money but if you have the dough its a good idea.

I agree, which is why I gleam the forums for any info on headwork and who is doing it.
I keep coming back to swamps being the safest place to send my $$.
Pierce looks to have the best result

Did you ever hit him up? Did Swamps do his?

Jason@dynoproven had his done and that truck was making 700 with a single and 250/200s. Which is a pretty good increase in efficiency over trucks without it. 570s is a good number it seems for 250/200 and healthy oil and air.

Emevol did 570 something with termies, an s468, and 238/200s on a stock fr motor.

I did. he gave me a price. if he was local I would have probably bought from him.
sight unseen, from a relative unknown, to the tune of a couple grand, many miles away, could work out great or could go bad easily.

recent info leads me to think he didnt do the actual work on his heads anyway so there is that. cant fault a guy for trying to make a buck
I found a link to a tractor puller guy that may be the man who did the grinding but havent contacted him.
(spent my head fund on a zf6 setup so have to replenish the kitty anyway)

ps. I would need to be able to get back in to my old account to look at the PMs but the admins havent responded to help me get it back.

That is why I am taking them to dyno proven. The ported heads will be installed when I go down the end of September for live tuning. Hoping it will help spin the little s467 to 700 hp.

Swamps didn't do Pierce's heads. He claimed that his were ported more than any head swamps had ever done.

Whether he did them or not, i dont know. His numbers tell us he was right in that peoplewere leaving way too much on the table.

But he was also fast with every setup. He ran 300/200s and a 38r and was way over 600hp according to track times. Then he turned it up even more. Then the built setup. 4 digit power on fuel in a 7.3, or any truck, is serious in my world.

Zack pierces heads did flow more then swamps and yes he had them done from another source. As his brother I know that he spent a lot of time and research to put that big hp combo together

I agree it is serious. If my drag truck ever comes to to be more than a pile of parts, I plan to discuss my motor plans with him.

I believe that he had "work" done to the stock bottom end motor that he ran the 38r on. It wasn't just a factory long block.

Im not willing to argue about that but in this day and age after you already broke it, since it needs changed, theres a stock dmax crank that is good for 1khp...if you balance it all even more.

But I dont doubt that someone has changed firing order to help the issue.

im assuming tuning plays a big role again.. i think we argued this a while back about ross beckers lonestroke truck making almost 800hp at the crank with a bone stock bottom end. all in tuning..

I think rpm was the key factor that was mentioned, dont build cylinder pressure that will kick the rods out at low rpm

Yeah tuning was a key player but it did end up throwing a rod so yeah it was a little too much for the stock bottom end

They do. Im ignoring the suggestion as its looked at funny at a few shops. To each his own though. And Im INTIMATELY aware of the problem. This was last week. I stepped in the shop one night to help and found this. Lmm WITH efi live and modded firing order. Didnt matter lol

The lml cranks are plenty good and with a precise balance job they are good for built motors. But in an lmm if you just take a step back, problem solved.
