Aftermarket Intakes, worth the money?

I'm still using my stock intake and filter and was wondering what everyone around here thinks of the after market intakes. I've heard the K&N let dust and crap thru and aren't good at all on these engines. What about other companies? I see a lot of AFE and Air Raid in sigs.

I know the Donaldson filters great (if not the best), but what about flow? If the stock unit will flow as good or nearly as good as an aftermarket setup, then I don't see wasting the money. I'm not looking for bling, but for performance. Tell me honestly what your intakes have done for you and any problems you might have had.

I'm planning on some 155's and a Powermax in the future

Did the AFE make any noticeable difference? Do you think it filters as well as the stock unit?

i have the S&B in mine, it sounds way better than stock. But for performance i really havn't seen much more. At first it seemed to spool up better but think that was all in my head.

Less smoke at wot is the only thing. I Doubt anything filters as well as a stock unit. But I Really think what i have is perfect. Its just a whole with a line of filter protected from engine heat. And it will stay this way until its twined.

Dont think there's any difference than stock. Makes you hear the turbo more.

I wanna know where this 500hp number comes from.....

the cfm of air required to match the fuel to make 500ish. The stock system doesn't flow enough air to support the cfm required and could become a restriction. Ex...to hit 500 hp you need x cfm...stock only flows y
