Glad to see you tackle this Shawn. After looking at what all is done to the $1000 piece I've always wondered, "why soo much for what looks like a few hours of work?" Any good welding shop can do cast-cast or cast-sheet. It would be better if you did it on a mock-up core though for warpage reasons.

We need to take a look at how that bottom can deal, I may have a boost leak there, never checked.

On the other hand, take a look at an intake manifold gasket, I'm pretty sure it has the sealing material around where the bolt goes.

It does not have an oring around where the bolt goes through, It does have some rubber to hold the gasket to the manifold which just makes it easyer to install on the truck

so have a machine shop cut o-ring grooves into the bottom of the manifold, and eliminate the stock gaskets..

So can anyone vouch for lower egts or quicker spool up? Just was thinking it would help with both for towing. Also where wood be a good place to pick up copper washers?

I have heard of all of those results with the gogo stage 1 manifold which is essentially the same thing.

I have no doubt the Canadian Rednecks can get this to work, but I fore see a lot of messed up 6.0 intake manifolds in the near future...

I will definitely be milling mine out.

The bolt does go through its own hole that has a rubber grommet. Event the gogo diesel unit doesn't use any extra orings for the bottom bolts.

Just looked at one, Shawn's right there is rubber material that the bolt passes through.

I didn't notice any Egt change or spool up with mine.

yeah like shawn said...the bolts that bolt the intake manifold to the heads use the same grommets that seal the ports of the intake manifold to the ports of the head. The bolts go right through the same grommet.

Yeah, I've been on the fence about posting up. I wanted to have my ducks all in a row before I went public. If all goes well, my machinist will have one done for me in a week or so. I like the DIY project Shawn, but for those guys who are looking to maximize air flow, with minimal runner restriction, I feel that some other steps should be taken with a CNC inorder for that to happen. Very cool of you to help these guys out with a budget in mind though.

Cant wait to see your intake come out. Dougs intake is a great piece, but i agree with Shawn on the price. Nice post shawn, we have been thinking about doing a few here but we wouldnt be doing any retailing or anything.

I've gutted and ported a couple of these intakes. The issue is when you tig the intake back up after porting the manifold itself warps...some. I like to use the same epoxy used in my HV head porting to attach the two halfs back together. The epoxy is stronger then aluminium and can be removed to change things in the intake. I've had a couple on a flow bench. You would be surprised what you can get out of one of these intakes by actually adding material in certain places.

I clamp them to a table, weld them, let it cool and then release the clamps. This avoiids warping

What kind of clamps and tig gun you using? I wound up having to take one of mine to a welding shop that had a oven, let them heat it in it, and then tig it while it was hot.
