Catch cans, effective?

I just installed an intercooler and of course I cleaned it inside and out first. Would anyone have experience with catch cans, just to keep as much oil out of the ic as possible? I plan on installing one inline between the valve cover and turbo inlet. I'm not interested in venting to atmosphere.

I would run the drain to the oil pan and have a 12 volt 100 % duty cycle solenoid valve wired so it opens when ignition is off (normally open). No futzing!

Sounds interesting with the electric valve..
Interested to hear about your results.

I recently picked up the no limit catch can and would recommend checking it out.. it's got outstanding build quality and although not installed yet looks like it's going to be great...

I haven't seen success with a number of passive CCV systems attempted. It seems venting to atmosphere or leaving as-is are the common methods that work. Using a 12v vacuum pump that ford has used on a number of applications has interest, but complexity and cost become barriers. Proving a system works is the challenge. Bolting one on and thinking it works doesn't cut it as the risk of increasing CC pressure is high. My .02

The no limit approach looks ok but would need testing via pressure gauge on the crankcase to ensure it is working an not over pressurizing the crank case.

It's meant to work with a Venturi or rerouted back to intake tract. Simple physics. If you end up with crank case pressure you're doing something very wrong. You don't need any gauges , you just need any amount of vacuum. You can measure if you like but it's incredibly easy to tell via putting a finger over it.

I use a strainer. Setup on the CCV line. Reduced the amount of oil into the intake.

I'm currently working on a VW 1.9tdi. This motor is notorious for intake sludge buildup when coupling the egr and case venting system. I'm doing away with the egr system all together. And with the vent I'm either going to vent to atmosphere or get a catch can. I just don't feel it's proper to put the crank case gases back in the intake, just my personal opinion. My 4bt is vented to atmosphere and it's does leave a deposit sometimes on the ground, just a few drops.

I have vented mine into the exhaust just after the down pipe connection under the truck on a few trucks I have had using a check valve from a smog pump set up put in at a 30-45° angle with a piece of 3/4 hose straight to the valve cover and its always worked great, seems to pull a slight draft at idle

I have a simple catch can. Made out of some PVC pieces. Input is low, output is high, it has a drain plug on the bottom. Output goes back into the intake. There is a slight oil film, very, very slight, on the intake. I have the catch can filled with some coarse shaved metal, looks like brillo pad with an attitude. I drain a teaspoon out every oil change.

keep us posted on the ProVent

I run the Racor 6000 CCV ( overkill at 20cfm/800hp) it does a great job of separating the oil
and they have a simple non electric valve option that drains the can to a location like the drain plug or wherever you choose every time the engine shuts down
i have a manual drain on mine however since i have the unit mounted low on the frame rails

I ordered a ProVent 200, thanks Justin.

I use the Pro Vent 200. Comes out of the valve cover 3/4" goes to 1" the rest of the way and back to a 4" intake pipe with a 1" barbed fitting on the bottom of the intake. It has a drain which can be plumbed back to the oil pan or just ran to a catch can. The 1" hose is bulky but it seems to work as intended.

When I just routed to the back of the truck it seemed to be using oil, creating a suction or something.

I decided to mount the can by the IDM. It's working well so far.

Ive been concerned that it was big enough, but ive looked at the 200 for awhile now. Good to see a few more trying it.

I have been running it for about 15k miles now. It is a good can, and it is surprising how much oil it catches.

Justin, that is some good news. How is the element holding up? Their pricey. The element looks simple enough, I'm going to check if I could just by the media and replace it myself???
