I am thinking about changing from 3.55 to 4.10 gears. can I just purchase a ring a pinion or do I need to buy a new carrier?

Wondering why you are changing to 4.10's. Are you running large tires or towing heavy?

Because it's just that much better 3.55's bog like a little girl on the interstate. JMO. Loved my 4.10's especially with a full 35" tire, gives you a lot more useable power and a lot easier on the tranny for me.

yeah I want to change them cause I do a lot of towing and I have 33's on it now looking at 35's and been hearing people like the 4.10 way better. just want to know if I can get away with buying just a ring and pinion.

3:73 is the happy medium imo. you will run out of rpm with 4:10s and use a ton of fuel.

Lol not really only rpm issue is unhooked I guess to some it is but once you run 35's with 4.10's and haul a lot you'll hate taller gears. Never bogs on on ramps even without tow/haul just rocks right on with it, and always in rom on the interstate. And I got better mileage than the same truck with 3.73's and 35's when towing heavy. You for sure suck it down unhooked though. Lol after 120mph you run out of legs bahahaa

I was thinking of doing it on mine as well was going to try 3.73 first want to go to a full 35" tire again and see if it bothered me again. Once tuned it's really not too bad.

I was lucky with my 09 f350, it came with 3.73.

11+ the only option in 3.31 & 3.55. I bought my 11 used so I had no choice and got stuck with 3.31

So does anyone know if you need to switch out the carrier? I haven't looked into it that much but I'd love to do this. 35's and 3.55's suck for towing IMO

On my 11 Ford lists 3.31, 3.55 ,3.73, 4.10 & 4.30 when I enter my s/n in ford parts.

I think I will be going to 4.10 with 35's. 70 mph will be around 1850rpm. Prefect for towing. 3.92 would be better but oh well.

3.73 & 35" tires would put you at 1750 rpm @ 70mph with a 6.4.

In my garage, next to the beer.
I think you are ok to just get a ring and pinion. I was looking to go to 3.55 or 3.31. I was told the 3.31 is different and you would need to swap out the rear axle....something about it being longer. To the OP where are you located? If you were close by I would be interested in your 3.55's

I run 3.73 with 35" tires... the only thing that change was I lost 1.2 mpgs... So I was
wanting to install 3.55 to gain it back...
