Some changes had made it necessary to replace my Flex-a-lite fans, and go with 4 single 14" fans.

Moved the transmission cooler to the back of the truck, and lo and behold if one of my Mark VIII fans didn't just fit damn near perfect.

Just had to add a 2" piece across the top to seal it up.
Should cool the transmission without any problems now.:pimp:

I just saw in DPM this past month that flex-a-lite even has a specific 6.0 powerstroke fan kit now all set ready to go. They also have an different trans cooler setup to get it out of the radiator.

I really didn't like how thick the fan shroud was on the Flex-a-lite.
Had to move the transmission external filter to make it fit.

My reasoning behind moving the stock trans cooler was because it sits directly in front of the intercooler. And the transmission temp is usually around 150*F.....the heat only had one place to go, and that was straight into the intercooler, and into the final discharge air to the engine.
So if I can get rid of an extra 100-150*F of heat...cool.

I have thought to do something similar on the excursion when I swap it over to diesel.

How many rows is that trans cooler? I believe there are 2 that are 3? row.

Figured I'd share my electric fans that I'm currently installing.

The motors at their furthest point stick out 4.5 inches from the radiator. The aluminum shroud is only about an inch and a half from the radiator. The fans are rated at 3600 cfm each and draw 10A each.

I too didn't like how thick the flex-a-lite fans were so that was why I pursued a different route.

The shrouding for the new released 6L kit looks much better than the 7.3 kit myself and others are running. Looks to give a little more room and doesn't stick out that far.

I think they put them further away, so the fans pull from the entire surface area of the rad.
Right up against the rad results in air only being pulled from directly in front of the fan.

Since the fans are right against the rad, I went with 4 of them...and tried to cover as much of the rad as possible.

Some good work on your own setup guys! Looks great!

So are these just for extra engine bay room and access? Do they perform well under heavy towing loads too?

There are a few guys in my area that tow somewhat heavy....probably 22k-24k lbs including the truck weight. They have no issues what so ever with the flex-a-lite kit from the last I talked to them.
