Pretty much look for the gap or not between casting of the bolt hole for manifold to head and bolt hole for manifold to up-pipe. Those with the gap are for the 99.5-03 turbo setup.

But both sides aren't tall enough right?

Jason said that he thought the exhaust manifolds only mattered on the 94 and 95 models.

Passenger side fit, drivers side does not.

Drivers side manifold is shorter on 94.5 to E99...

Change the manifold and the issue is gone.

Do what Joe says. If using stock uppies you can make it work. With bellowed, you gotta swap the exhaust manifold.

BTW. I grew up trusting Dorman parts. They were always really reliable aftermarket stock replacements. That was for 30's thru 60's vehicles. Lately in the last ten years or so, everything I have gotten from them is pure junk. I now stay away from anything that says Dorman on it.

The pic makes it look like the OBS manifold is shorter in length.

the bolt holes are the same on both manifolds or you wouldnt be able to swap them..the only differences is the end of the maifold..It is shorter and the end has a different angle on it,,, I did not have to change my manifolds on the 1/98 built motor but I can see the different on my 95 I'm about to drop in...

Update one the install. So I ordered new manifolds and when I received them they were the same as what I already had on the truck:banghead:

So the conclusion I came to is that the Dorman manifolds are a little short. I pulled them down tight to the manifolds with the bolts. They stretched about 1/2 inch total to reach the passenger side after the drivers was pulled tight.

So I will see how ling the stretched bellows last. I went out and made a few 1800° passes to "seat them in".

Just a report that so far the up-pipes have been holding just fine. But my bottom end hasnt been fine! We will see about the dorman manifolds as they will go on the new built motor.

Yes I did lol. I know many who have tried but couldn't get the job done, guess im special!

I haven't taken it apart but the only thing I see possible is that it dropped a valve and then grenaded forged rods. It has good springs and pushrods but evidently something went terribly wrong.

And to boot I was six hours away from home with a trailer hooked to it!

I guess 4k rpm runs the other weekend didn't do any justice:D

I know many have been saying the up pipes are a little short but i was reading riff raffs instructions on international up pipes and 1/4 to 1/2 inch short is the way they are made and to stretch the bellows to fit. (Installed a set of dorman up pipes today) only issue was the y threads were not deep enough for the bolts other wise no issues.

Question on this.....found out the hard way, customer's truck is a e99, door jam sticker was removed when repainted.....anyway, got the turbo mounted to the up-pipes and there is a 1-1.5" gap between it and pedestal.....will the taller 99.5-0 pedestal change that? thanks!

I could be wrong, but I thought the issue was the exhaust manifold being different lengths.

Since the pedestal on the E99 is shorter it would require a shorter up-pipe wouldn't it? the turbo exhaust housings are pretty much the same on an e99 vs late 99.

yes the driver side up pipe is shorter on the E99..i thought he put on a dorman manifold but i see now its the up pipes he replaced..if he is already too short i cant see how a taller pedestal will help....he need to find out if got the right pipes or what turbo he has..E99 or the 99.5...

Ok.....here's what I have.

E99 7.3, got the Dorman up-pipes
Got them loosely installed
Went to install turbo, up-pipes would not line up with turbo housing, they are about 1-1.5" taller
Reading this thread, its my understanding E99 trucks, turbo "sits lower" in the engine valley, hence the shorter up pipes and why the Dorman are 1-1.5" above the back of the turbo
Would a 99.5-03 pedestal be the key to making this all line up?
Yes the turbo does mount to the up pipes themselves, but then it leaves 1-1.5" gap between the pedestal and turbo.......does that make sense?

Or am I totally mistaken about the fact the e99 turbo sitting lower in the engine valley and I'm just SOL have to use the $hitty stock up-pipes with doughnut gaskets???
