I never mess with tire size or gear ratio with any of my custom files. Leave it at default for however the tuner sets the tune up. Trans always acted the best this way.

Only thing I change is revs per miles seems to like it better with 35s

The Custom tunes still pull certain parameters from the stocks file I do believe, things as gear ratio and the tire rev per mile. So the tuner wouldn't have to ask you for that unless you changed it? I think that's how all that works In a very simplified explanation..

Usually they build files off a strategy that is known for the best mileage or most power output I know but it is always good to list your tire size and gear ratio I think just to get it right. Pretty sure if the tuner needed it and it isnt in the initial email, they would ask for it.

Hmm....well I wonder about this now. Eric, everytime I program the truck with one of your tunes I always go through the user options and select 3.7.3 for gearing and select 635 for tire revs and increase the pressure for every shift up to 25%. Should I not do this and just leave alone? If that's the case I don't think i ever gave you my gear ratio and tire revs whenever I had you write a tune....does that matter?

Thats what I wondered as well. I never changed those but I told Eric I had 37s and told him the gearing. I assumed he wrote the tune for that and I shouldnt have to change it????

Correct. You should not have to change it. Should get the best shifting and trans strat out of the file Eric sent you without having to adjust any settings.

I sent Eric an email and got a reply. He said he sets the tunes up to stock tire size unless the customer tells him otherwise. I told him I always select the gearing and tire revs but he said it'll be OK with doing this. Bad thing is running 37's and not telling him when he's gonna write the tune for stock tire size.

I dont understand why you would not tell your tuner your tire size and gear ratio in the first place. The more info you give them the better.

i dont disagree, i was just stating that if your have not changed anything, your stock tune will give the custom tune enough info to do the job.

i have always wondered by people would adjust a custom une though. the tuner knows what he is trying to achieve, going in and adjusting shift points and pressures seems to be a sure fire way to screw something up.
