Yes they actually don't make 6.0 fans. These Flexalite fans that they are referring to are for the 7.3L. The factory shroud is not retained if that is what you are wondering about Matt.

No I was wondering about the shroud that comes with the kit. Is it really nessesary? How much cfm do you gain by using the shroud? I wanted to do mine without using a shroud.

Oh I got ya now. Yea I wouldnt think you would gain any CFM by using the shroud as they are puller fans and would be pulling air from the front and through everything. I would leave the shroud off for huge clearance between the fans and motor. JMO though.

I mean the shroud that the electric fan kit for the 7.3 comes with verse just using the fans. I know it does make a difference but is it really necessary?

I guess I am confused on what you mean by shroud then. Got a pic?? I guess if I saw a pic I might know why there would be a difference in air flow??

Theres an allumimum shroud the fans are mounted to. The fans dont actually themselves get mounted to the radiotor/intercooler assembly

So Matt are you referring to what looks like an aluminum casing that kind of keeps everything looking like a complete unit?? And you are wanting to take off all of that??

Yeah that's what I'm talking about, but I want to just buy the fans not the "kit" Bc I don't need the wiring harness or anything like that. These fans already move less air than the oem does so I was wondering how much more flow I would lose by not using the shroud?

I got ya now. Well now that I know what we are talking about. I dont think or am not sure if there are numbers for this or not man.

What I have thought about using is two of these.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DER-16928/

The 7.3L flexalite kit measures 30"H x 26.5"W x 4.25" TH
Two of these would measure 27.6"H x 28.5"W x 3.2" TH

EACH of these are rated at 4000CFM so a total of 8000CFM between the two. I just dont know if the extra 2in of width would matter or not. I also know it would probably need a nuclear reactor to supply enough power for two of these. I would be doing this for the 8000CFM flow capability and I could probably set it up to engage one set at a time as temp would dictate. Also two of these fans are about $130 cheaper than the flexalite fan but I think by the time you bought all of the electronics for them to work, it would be a wash on money. Thoughts??

:bowfast:Thank you so much for the link!!! Those are what I'm going to be using! They flow WAY more than flex-a-lite says there's do. I have a duel alt. truck so I think I can turn four of um if I had to.
