Hey fellas I know this is an odd request but if someone out there can help me out it could save me a lot of time and money. Ide like someone that's running a stack behind there cab that also has a hand held inferred temp gun to go for a ride and get your stack good and hot, on the highway maybe and snap a couple temp readings through your back window at about bed rail height. Reason is, I want to run an 8" center stack behind my cab BUT I want to run the stack through my leather tonneau cover. My idea is to slit cut the cover so it fits tightly around the stack then put a hose clamp underneath so the leather is water tight against the stack leaving a clean look. I just need to know if it will get hot enough to melt the leather and I hate to find out the hard way. If it appears like it will get to hot, My idea is to run a 4" stack up the center of the 8" and run it up a couple inches higher then the leather then let it open up to the 8", thus keeping the hot exhaust from touching the outer stack below the leather.
FLAME AWAY but if someone can help ide surly appreciate it!!

Thanks!

One of the DPC competitors had this setup years ago right? He had a custom metal band around the stack that connected to the bed cover...

Friend of mine runs his stack through his tonneau cover. Has the stack heat wrapped where it passes through I believe with no issues at all

Look into the boots that are used on chimney stacks on houses, may be an option.

i had them on my 99 and i had a tonneau. I just cut the holes for the stacks, and shoved them through. the tonneau melted just enough to no longer interfere. i drove cross country with the tonneau cover and stacks with no issues at all. My stacks were also powdercoated "muffler black".

i had gotten 4 rings made out of steel, and powder coated in wrinkle black to sandwich the material to stop it from melting (2 rings to each stack, one for on top of material and one beneath the material. unfortunately i measured wrong and the inner diameter was 1/16" larger than the stacks which was good, but the outer diameter was too small and it ended up being to small for what i wanted. if i had to do it again, I would have the outer diameter be 3 inches larger than the inside diameter, as well as have them pre-drilled with holes to make it easier.

This was my next thought maybe a nice piece of stainless or aluminum to sandwich the leather around the stack.

honestly i never seen one made of leather. mine was a vinyl covered fabric. But yes they will work, just make sure you get 2 per stack, and have them predrill the whole for symmetry.
