almost sounds like hpop bleed back now-- hard start then its cranky for the first few minutes?
yeah its not even that cold sometimes when it wont start. So it still has cold no start and hard start? And this a different set of injectors?
so the only issue is that it sometimes doesnt start worth a poo when cold only?
live life full throttle
WTF! and that is the only issue? hqve we covered battery power and alternator voltage? im at work so no time to go back and read right now.yeah its not even that cold sometimes when it wont start.
50 or colder it can have the problem
It will start at 10 degrees not plugged in no problem as long as it doesnt sit for more than 24 hours
i could see that hindering startup some but should run just fine after the alternator catches back up... it will draw a lot when the glow plugs are running while cranking....Yea batteries are less than a year old they charge fine with a newer alternator.
I also just put a new gear reducted starter on it a few weeks ago as well
Cranking rpm is 250 only real concern is cranking draw is 380 amps which still seems high
i cut the intake heaters off all the 7.3s i work on and unhook the relay.. not needed... coldest i started my dually was -27 in hastings Minnesota without being plugged in.. thats when i knew that delo 15-40 would be staying in my truck cuz even synthetic rotella wouldnt fire when that cold..glow plugs draw about 100 amps and the heating grid (which i wired to come on all the time with the glow plugs) draws another 50 amps, i thought maybe the extra intake temp would help but it hasn't.
The original starter was non gear reducted and was drawing almost 500 amps, so i figured that maybe it was sucking so much power from the IDM that it wouldnt allow it to fire the injectors correctly. So it was obviously not good but i didnt think 380 amps was right either. Although it cranks super fast and sounds much better than it did before.
truck has been sitting since sunday. I did a hot run on it and then parked it. Oil RES is full of oil. Truck will not start. I checked fuel pressure before i started it and it came up to 40 psi right away so its not draining back... Its almost got to be injectors. Its smoking to beat hell and trying to run but it just wont pick up and run.
One thing you could try is to pull a valve cover and watch the spill port while someone cranks it and see if oil is coming out. If not then the injectors need replaced.
What is the ICP and DC when it is hot, but no start?
I was going to try that, its too ***in cold for me to want to do that in my driveway tho LOL
I havent checked ICP right now but in the past when it was doing the same thing I had 2000 psi icp at like 63 DC IIRC cranking cold.
I havent done a WOT run when its hot to see what the numbers are
Is this the 3rd set of injectors? Did you ever get to pull the ipr?
