IS the tranny in your truck the same as an 08?
If so, the 4rth gear thing can be fixed with a 3/5 direct clutch solenoid. I had the same issue and was talking to my Mechanic Josh Clark out of Georgia and he recommended that I put a gogo diesel 3/5 DCS and a suncoast TC and man let me tell you..night and day diff. I actually have all 5 gears now and no more sloppy shifts. The Ford guys say that the 4rth gear in my tranny when it was stock might as well not even been there...it was like you said straight from 3rd to 5 most the time.

Sounds like the Ford guy is right. "4th" gear is not used unless in extreme cold. So the transmission is correct by shifting from "3rd" to "5th" then to "6th". Technically the 5r110 has 6 forward gears and the 3/5 DCS helps with the shift from 3rd to 5th. I do get what your saying though, and Dougs solenoid is on my wish list. Not trying to be a di*k just thought that might be what the guy at ford was trying to say.

OP- The early shifts are just part of the tune, as is the torque converter not locking in OD sometimes. The X-Race also will lock the converter in 2nd as well. As it says it is a RACE tune.

well the 5r110 is only a 5 speed there is no 6th gear, the 6th shift is jus the converter lockin. but as to the early shifting im experiencing, it only does this on the race tune, every other tune i have goes through all 5 gears and locks the converter nicely, so clearly its the tune, im also not saying that its not supposed to be that way, maybe it is since he locks the converter early, however im jus sayin i dont like it on the street to cruise around, i mean obviosly its a race tune but i know several guys that always run the extreme race and havent heard them say anything bad about the shifting on the street. and if he can adjust it a lil bit then thats wut i like to have done. if not i guess i wont run that tune on the street as much

The 5R110 is actually a 6 speed transmission, but 4th gear is only used in extreme cold situations and if 4th gear is used than 5th gear isn't. At no time during normal operation will the transmission ever use all 6 gears, but the 5R110 is a 6 speed tranny.

well the 5r110 is only a 5 speed there is no 6th gear(your wrong, it has 6 foward gears. but only 5 are used under most circumstances), the 6th shift is jus the converter lockin (?). but as to the early shifting im experiencing, it only does this on the race tune, every other tune i have goes through all 5 gears and locks the converter nicely, so clearly its the tune, im also not saying that its not supposed to be that way, maybe it is since he locks the converter early, however im jus sayin i dont like it on the street to cruise around, i mean obviosly its a race tune but i know several guys that always run the extreme race and havent heard them say anything bad about the shifting on the street. and if he can adjust it a lil bit then thats wut i like to have done. if not i guess i wont run that tune on the street as much (Call Eric and tell him what its doing, he'll get you fixed up. When im too lazy to change tunes after the track, ill run around on Xrace. Just change up my driving style a little and its completely streetable but im used to changing my driving style ever since i went to a non-vgt charger so that might be harder for others. The Street tune is much better for what it is, a street tune. Plenty of power on the Xstreet and better driveablility.)

I didnt take that reply to be dickish at all man...ive been dealing with another guy on this forum thats a real tool so let me tell you I have real thick skin around here..LOL
BUt yeah your right..I honestly dont remember what my tranny shifted like stock so i cant comment...but the current set up of mine is working out perfect..Gogo DCS and suncoast TC = sweetness. Although I did have Mike@KEm soften up the shifts for me a while back other than that its outta the box shift points.

LOL i saw that in another thread. When my tranny finally takes a dump its getting one of Dougs solenoids and a Converter for sure. And after hearing what you and others say about them makes me want to get one sooner, but hard to pull a transmission that still gets me from place to place and does fine at the track.

Man I had the same train of thought but, look at it this way, its really gonna save you money in the long run because your preventing more damage technically. In other words if you were to damage the tranny tomorrow you will have to gut the entire thing..clutches and all..right? well by changing the TC and the solenoid you will delete the weak links in the tranny now,In turn saving some components , BUt I hear ya...I went back and forth and finally said F-It...ohh and MagHytec pan too.

I agree, but i have a complete low milage transmission and transfer case out of a 06 sitting in the shop. Picked it up of CL for $400 LOL So it will just get swapped out when mine bites the dust and i will have the upgraded gear set of the 05-up transmission.

Sorry for the thread jack.
