Seems I need an alternator.

Since I run an electric plow pump and additional lights for the winter I would like to upgrade the alternator.

Is there a Ford upgrade such as ambulance that is a direct replacement

In other words I don’t want to change the belt and brackets / pully configuration etc.

Thanks

Yea there are higher output alts you can get, like 220 amp DB Electrical alt. Or a Mean Green, etc. Would stay away from parts store alts if possible in my humble opinion.

From what I have read stay away from their electrical parts.

They are just putting out Chinese junk now and I have herd of a lot of failures.

See if there is a automotive electrical rebuilder in your area and talk to them.

Also don't forget that if you upgrade your alternator to a higher amp on you will also need to upsize the alternator to battery wire.

I run a Leece-Neville 200 amp rebuildable and has stood the test of time on 2 of my trucks. The OBS mount is called a “T” mount. You will pay more but it’s rebuildable, robust and puts out the amps.

You wanted to upgrade your alternator, yet you ended up getting a used stock one?

Yes.

Was actually more curious about what was involved to install the high output.

I got a good deal on direct replacement/so I’m good.

Believe me I’ve got lots of other things I’m blowing money on right now.

Gotcha. Yeah I was just curious why you ended up on the used stocker. I've been looking at the Mean Green high outputs, they get fairly good reviews and seem to be pretty heavy duty. Hard to justify the $400 price tag though, sheesh. I totally understand about blowing money on things, lol. Sometimes my truck seems like it burns through money faster than diesel fuel! Gotta love these OBS trucks.
