Pretty sure they are. I may be wrong.. I'll let someone else confirm.

to my knowledge the only difference is the pan shape, torque converter, and possibly filter setup depending on age. also, some of the later 6.4's had a 5 pinion planetary. in the main, the internals are identical.

If they are the same, in general, then idk why the 6.4s hold so much better while making gobs more HP and torque

probably because the 6.4's don't hit as hard. the 6.0's being a single turbo, hit harder. 6.4's having compounds pull harder, but are smoother, imo. That would be my guess. less lag, easier on the trans.

i tend to disagree, torque is harder on transmissions and 6.4's make a bunch more a bunch sooner. that being said i don't have an answer as to why they last as well as they do. probably tuning has a part to play in it.

I don't own a 6.4 but my understanding a couple years ago was that the trans was living longer in the 6l than in the 6.4 and the tcm was directly to blame. Has that changed? People were carrying on about how trannys in 6l were taking abuse in modded trucks for long durations.

I had a brand new trans put in my 2003 6.0 and when tuned I could feel slip in 5th (direct clutch) it's always hated any type of downshift to 5th while under power. My trans only lasted 3 weeks at around 575hp and I'd guess around 900tq. After doing some reading I blame the factory 2003 TCM flash 100% my truck is on small tires and is around 7400lbs. There's definitely a big improvement on the 6.4 package when it comes to transmissions.

I haven't heard anything good about 03 &04 6l trucks. Under the hood or otherwise. I was referring to 05-07s and should have said that.

I'm saying the 6.4 tcm flash is probably better than even the 05-07 6.0 flash

My 03 6.0 treated me just fine. Trans, motor, never really had an issue and she was around 500hp.

Mine did the same too but we are also talking a whole different ball game. Tuned + a batmo I'm pushing a little over 600 and 1200 lbs of tq so 500/900 doesn't really compare to that.

I understand that as my 6.4 is north of both those numbers.
